If Mullen had stayed at Florida, Newton would have stayed at Florida (well.. maybe not with that cheating/theft thing), and we could have been looking at 3 more years of Tebow Part 2.

But anyway..
Mullen goes to State. Newton follows.
But as we all know, the money was better at Auburn. And Auburn had Malzahn and Malzahn's offense is just as good for Newton as Mullen's offense was for Tebow.

If Florida liked Urbie ball, I'd say Mullen and Malzahn would have to be towards the top of their list.

I hope Mullen doesn't leave State because that would almost amount to nothing more than a better-timed Kiffin move.

If Malzahn gets offered, he wouldn't even hesitate. The potential for Auburn to get USC'd is high, IMO.... why hang around for that?

They were not great before Visor boy....dropped with Zook..and have been very good with Urban....

Trends happen with every University....never know....Look at UT!

BTW..............who does he think he is????? Brett Frarve ???? You know he is coming back to coach again somewhere.

Oh believe me. I know what all happened with Newton ,but I just didn't feel like typing it ,because every average college football fan is aware of the situation. :p

As for Malzahn, he is an offensive genius and when Auburn got Cam Newton, they immediately became my dark horse. I just don't know how good of a head coach Malzahn would be, but we wouldn't find out until he became one. I don't know if Florida would take the risk or not. Either way, I think Malzahn is worth the chance.

I see them making a run at Mullen, Petersen, and Stoops (again). I hope they don't get Dan Mullen. He's building a solid program at a second tier school in the toughest conference in America. Imagine what he can do with all the resources that he would have at Florida. This is by no means disrespectful to Mississippi State. I like Mississippi State (actually root for them when they aren't playing UT), but Mississippi State doesn't have near the amount of resources and facilities that Florida has. I hope Mullen stays at State ,because I would love to see him succeed there, and I'd like to see that program succeed. Then again, Mississippi State isn't exactly a destination job, and not many coaches are lucky enough to be blessed with the opportunity to be the head coach at the University of Florida.

major improvment in record comes from wins over Georgia and Florida - both playing well below normal levels - and Ole Miss with 4 OC wins against Memphis, Alcorn St, Houston and UAB....still lost to Auburn, LSU, Arkansas and Alabama.

I don't know why Urban leaving is the second coming of Jesus on this board... Florida will go after Malzhan or another bigtime coach, and it won't go too well for us. I don't know about you guys, but I was feeling pretty secure for the next 5 years with the state of UF with Meyer at the reigns.

My first thought. But Spurrier's only got a few good years left in him, I'd say. Maybe I could be wrong about that.

I don't care either way. Whoever they get, they're gonna take some hits on recruiting. Between us, Miami and FSU going after their recruits (and UGA) they'll lose some.

They're hurting right now. We're going to start bringing the pimp hand again.

That's true ,but they were still very competitive through all 4 quarters in the Auburn and Arkansas game (easily could have won both). They competed with Bama for a half. The only game where they didn't play well throughout was the LSU game. Regardless, I was impressed with Mullen this year ,and I would like to see what he can do with more talent.

Although this was a down year for the Gators...just like the Vols...it will not remain so. The high profile job will more than likely be filled by a worthy opponent meaning that the future probably looks better for the SEC East with both teams gaining strength and ability in the coming years.

Mullen would be a solid hire. A really good one actually. I mean, I'm willing to bet all of my lunch money that those players are sitting there begging Meyer to give DM a call and tell him to make an overnight flight to Gainesville. I agree with "gordonr24" in the sense that I don't wanna see MSU lose him. Mullen has done so good for that program within 2 years. Imagine where State can be if they have him 2 more years down the road where it's all of his type of recruits running his type of system.

The other hire I can see is Stoops. Granted, he's got a pretty sweet set up in Oklahoma, but I mean come on, it's Florida. Perfect location, a pool of Blue Chip talent, and he's back in his old school roots. Stoops wouldn't have to stress on fighting over recruits with Mack Brown over in Tornado Alley.

Chris Petersen, a coach who has proven that he can turn 2 and 3* recruits into winning machines. I know he's playing weak sauce teams but look what he pulled off against OU and TCU, that's 2 BCS wins. I'd love to see him take a step forward and watch what he does with 4 and 5* players. I think it'd be an exciting and interesting thing to watch unfold.

Malzahn, I honestly think he'd be a Mullen 2.0 hire, both run the spread, both are offensive gurus. I would rather gun for the 3 above and see where it goes.

Either way, Miami is screwed. Ever since Coker dumbed down that program they have become a second rate school to go to. Florida will have the 1st choice in picking a coach. Miami will have to settle for leftovers.

Florida is a big job with a very enviable recruiting base. They'll hire somebody good and continue to kick our ass, no doubt. I'm sorry to say it. Offensively, we'll always be behind florida because their offensive system is always far more creative than ours. It was with spurrier and it was with meyer. Combine that with the athletes they get from that state and they are tough to beat.
