Playing time is the big draw and not only as a starter, but there is playing time 2 or 3 deep due to time of possession for the other team.

We can honestly offer to need people on defense two or three deep for most possessions and play just about as many plays as other teams starters do.

A selling point has to be you will see the field quite a bit even if you are not the #1 at your position and you can sell that to multiple players and be totally honest about it.

Every 4 star could go to vandy and start and get all the playing time they want. There's a lot more to it than that. 4 or 5 programs wouldn't be stacking elite talent like wood every year if that was a reason

Don't forget about the biggest draw. $$$$$$ They stack talent because of the stacks of cash. It has been going on in Bama since the early 80's. I am not guessing. I know. I worked for a company that paid 3 of their linemen. The owner said they were part time salesmen. Never sold a thing. LMAO

The upside is that we have a help wanted sign at every conceivable position on defense! Good god, if you play defense and have somewhat of a pulse you could start or at least see a lot of playing time!

Another selling point for DEs and DLs is that with Tennessee's high pace offense, most teams will be trying to play catch up and predictably throwing the ball more. Plenty of opportunity to pin their ears back and get good sack numbers.

Definitely alert the coaches to discuss this so called “playing time”. The day isn’t over yet!

Yes and no. Last year there were huge opportunities for back ups to get as many reps as the starter. However the idea is that UT plays high pressure D and still gets off the field on 3rd down.

THIS

Time of Possession isn't a problem when our D makes stops on 3rd Down for What

Tired of hearing about how our Offense causes our Defense to tire out - that argument is not on point.

Absolutely. The Mizzou game is how it is supposed to work. The D got some good stops and the O buried them before the end of the 1st half. I was there. The life was gone out of that stadium by the end of the 1st qtr.

Kind of like boxing when a fighter's defense frustrates an opponent and his offense just keeps scoring. You take their heart away and they give up. Or you force them to play a game they don't want to play. Opposing coaches know there are only so many possessions in a game. Getting a quick lead forces them out of what they want to do. Any way you cut it... UT just needs the D to get some stops.

I'm pretty sure that's been a centerpiece for UT in recruiting D... but O too.

Need some linebackers to chose Tennessee so QB's will stop having record rushing numbers against them.. There is still a big gap in the middle they haven't filled yet.

If the defense can improve on 3rd down defense 20-25%, think about how many more opportunities the offense will get.

We remaking progress and this off season will show increasing results. We do need to recruit more speed and grow more strength at the LV positions.

You mean the score should be 114 to 0 in most games? ;>)
