Upset Auburn

Auburn is just a small step below Georgia. Our best shot was Florida. South Carolina, Kentucky or Missiouri is possible but not probable

I would like to think there's a shot, but the Vols' offense is just too terrible. Aub has an elite D. I dont think simply an extra week to prepare can close the gap there.

If Old Dominion can beat Virginia Tech, we can beat Auburn. But, it would take a bad game by Auburn, our best game in two years, and a lot of luck. I don't see it happening and will, once again, be looking for improvement.

Trying to be positive: Could a reasonably close loss (less than 14 points) at UGA Saturday lead to a potential upset coming out of the off week at Auburn?
I was in Jordan-Hare last Saturday, and watched one of the most uninspired efforts by an Auburn team I've ever seen. The crowd wasn't amped, neither was the team. I stayed around until the weather delay, then bailed. Something is wrong with Malzahn's football team; they can't run the ball, and their passing game is sporadic. UT can beat this squad.

If there was such a thing as a stat measuring good luck/bad luck, I would love to see it. We've gotta lead the nation in bad luck (fluke plays against us).

Auburn has tough game on the road at Miss. State, we have a bye that will allow us a lot of time to get a game plan together, get healthy and be ready to compete to win a football game.
Upset alert in my book. Go vols!

I know man. That strip sack fumble recovery TD just proves it. No other team has stuff like that happen.
Ive never seen it happen. But they dont show "Football Follies" like they used to when i was a kid.

Either have I. Like the punt return against Arkansas from a few years ago too where literally the entire punt team touched him it seemed.

It's been years since I've even though about that show

Dooley was correct about one thing, "There is a dark cloud hanging over Knoxville". I have never seen a team as unlucky as the VOls in the last ten years. If it weren't for bad luck, they would not have any luck at all.

You have to line up the teams strengths and weaknesses before calling for an upset. You know what Auburn has? One of the best defensive lines in the country. Only Clemson's is better. You know what our greatest weakness is? Our offensive line. For that reason alone I can not see a win. JG is going to be running for his life unfortunately. At the end of the day we will not be able to compete in the SEC until we get our o-line squared away.

agreed. Maybe we come out in some new offensive sets out of the bye week?
dunno about that. i'd settle for seeing a lot more 2nd and 5 than 2nd and 9+. give ourselves a chance to get a little rythem. keep our d off the field.

i will say this, at some point, we're gonna have to take advantage of opportunities that fall our way. we had at least 3 turnover opportunities against UGA that we failed to capitalize on.

if Auburn allows us to hang around like UGA did, and we can turn them over, you never know. if both teams play straight up, and we see the Auburn D line assert itself, it could be a very long day.

we still need some good things to happen early.

but i still say this game is at least set up as an opportunity for us to serve an upset. will we? well, i won't predict it. i'll just say that. but much like we need some good things to happen, if bad things happen to Auburn, i can see them kind of puckering up.

Any time we try to slide rule a future opponent’s previous effort, it never turns out well for us. On our absolute best effort day, which hasn’t happened in several years, we could make it a game.
