*****Updates on John Currie situation [updated 12:10 pm]

it was reported he went to California to talk to leach without permission.

I'm was behind Currie on that one...Let the man redeem himself and do his darn job....Just when there was light in this sh*tshow and Currie was actually about to hire a good coach who wanted to be here, they fire him....WTF!!!
I'm glad Fulmer is running the show (I think he's running it) but Leach was a great hire...makes you wonder if he ever had any say in who the coach was gonna be...and will Fulmer?

From what I've read, Currie was not out there to recruit Leach to coach, Leach was recruiting Currie for WSU AD. Currie knew what was about to happen to him.

HE was not fired- he was suspended. Lots of difference. He is due a freaking buyout north of 5 million for messing up . Who writes these contracts?

If that's the case firing with cause gets a check mark in that argument. Misuse of state or company assets (whoever the plane used belongs to).

Whether that's actually true or not, if I'm Davenport I'm getting on the phone with the WSU chancellor and working out a deal to get Currie the AD position at WSU and soften the buyout.

Currie and Botch Jones have turned this once proud program into a 3 ring circus. They have made a total mess of things. If Currie had fired Botch Jones by the middle of the season he could have more time to find a new coach. Now we have maybe waited to long and will probably end up with another Botch Jones and have to start over again. They have messed things up so that it appears no one really interested in the job and that means will get whoever is left over and has no other options. Sad time on Rocky Top!!!

RockytopSC posted in the recruiting forum that David was going thru a difficult time in his personal life and said he would not get into details.

Yeah I’ve read this from multiple people on here supposedly close to it. If that’s the case hopefully he will have a successful and speedy recovery whatever it is.

And once that is over then hopefully we get him back into UTAD.

One thing I’ve come to believe from all of this is we need a “Tennessee Man” in charge of UT athletics. Yes I know Curries history. But he has never been a Tennessee Man and he was purchased not hired.

The parallel to Barry Alvarez has come up. I hope it’s along those lines.

Suspension is legal ploy. See: Rick Pitino.
They want to fire Currie with cause.

Well, it does give them time to get their ducks in a row, and follow a process, which may look better in litigation.

UPDATE: Tennessee Vols football: Phillip Fulmer's salary as athletic director

Davenport's letter also confirmed Tennessee suspended athletic director John Currie with pay "pending an investigation or decision relating to termination of his Employment Agreement for cause under Article IX of his Employment Agreement."

Fulmer's term as AD is "indefinite". Sounds like they plan to replace him when they can, not keep him for a while.

Strange. It was reported last night that it was a 2-year deal.

Yeah, I saw that. Maybe that was leaked, then they changed their minds afterward.

I suspect some will think this would fit into a plan to bring in Blackburn when the time is right.

Mu understanding is that he didn't use a UT plane. That would prevent the misuse of funds. It would also suggest that indeed might have been interviewing for the WSU job. I think that's unlikely, but it does it.

My thoughts exactly. Initially, I heard the presser about Phillip thought thank god... then found out Mike L was in play and was thinking I am all alone in this thought process?? Why is there not MORE OUTRAGE at Davenport?!?! CURRIE was about to deliver his explosive hire and they screwed him. They could have let Currie hire Mike then fire Currie.

I think Bev realized she effed up and begged Phillip to stand in so she wouldnt lose her job too. THERE IS NO WAY in hell Phil is going to handle any real work or day to day activities. Hes there as figure head only.

Miles a lot better than Mike Leach IMO. Hope Fulmer can broker a deal for Miles and a lot of Vol Alums (Tee Martin AHC, Randy Sanders OC-QB, Jay Graham RB-ST, Jermaine Copeland WR, Chief -DC, Dale Jones LB, Terry Fair DBs, Jeff Hall K, Payton Manning VFL program with a inky Johnson. Al Wilson, Peerless Price, and Shawn Bryson recruiting coordinators. )

Fulmer will run the Athletic Department. He won't just be "a figurehead.
