Chynna Greene of WVLT reported UTAD John Currie has been fired, but then deleted the tweet.

@chynnaGreene "BREAKING: UTAD John Currie has been fired"

Michael Crowe: Just saw @john_currie walk into UT Chancellor Davenport’s office at 9:08a. Was in there about 12min, walked out.
I chatted with him for a sec—he said “I can’t say anything to you just now” and got in the elevator @wbir

Trey Wallace: John Currie, Chancellor, President & BOT members had a meeting this morning in Knoxville where it was agreed upon that Currie would be stripped of his powers. #Tennessee

Brian Rice: WVLT tweet on Currie deleted, sources saying definitely yes and definitely no, all in all just another day covering Tennessee.

The tweet from Chyna Greene is back.

BREAKING: Rick Russo here. Sources tell Local 8 News Tennessee AD John Currie has been fired after only 8 months on the job. Sources: Tennessee fires AD John Currie

9:56 AM @MichaelWBratton
If John Currie is out, that makes Lane Kiffin a much more realistic option for Tennessee. Could put Tee Martin in the picture as well, especially if Fulmer now has some power.

10:00 AM @WVLT
BREAKING: Sources close to the Athletics Director say John Currie is now out of the job. Watch right now on Channel 10. wbir.com | John Currie dismissed after meeting with UT's Chancellor, sources confirm

10:01 AM @travhaney
If accurate: Currie, enemy No. 1 of the fans, tried to do something the fans actually wanted. And was fired for it. What a week. Twitter

10:11 AM Will West
Y'all, this is about to get worse not better. Might be wrong but you don't have people sign off on a trainwreck, can a guy for getting it right, then expect those people to make smart moves. Usually not how the world works

10:11 AM Bruce Feldman
Industry source: “Throughout this entire (#Tennessee) coaching search Phil Fulmer has tried to undermine AD John Currie in hopes of becoming the AD there.”

10:14 AM Chris Low
Just filed to ESPN: Tennessee has parted ways with AD John Currie on the heels of what has been a disastrous Tennessee coaching search. He met with university officials on Friday morning, and the decision was made then.

10:15 AM Brett McMurphy
Sources: John Currie was prepared to hire Mike Leach but university officials wouldn’t allow him to do so. Phillip Fulmer has been sabotaging search process in hopes to become Tennessee’s AD

10:16 AM Clay Travis
This is huge because it also means the Haslams ability to run Tennessee athletics like feudal lords may have also ended.

10:25 AM Charlie Burris
This is so amazing. Currie was instrumental in getting Fulmer fired in 2008, then Currie became AD over Fulmer and so Fulmer played the long con and sabotaged him as an AD. I. CAN'T. EVEN. HANDLE. THIS.

10:26 AM Jesse Simonton
If Currie was dismissed for cause, Tennessee would owe him nothing ... But if not, he is due $100,000 for every month remaining on his deal (54 months) = $5.4 million

10:27 AM John Brice
Confirming @wvlt excellent work, multiple people connected to UT say that Currie is out. Fulmer will assume the reins moving forward. Has been unfolding that way for past 48 hours.

10:27 AM Brett McMurphy
Another source: Tennessee’s own people have been ambushing (John) Currie’s (coaching search). They shoot themselves in the foot, cock the gun & shoot themselves in the other foot. It’s been going on for a week"

10:31 AM Trey Wallace
The Schiano story that was put out on Sunday came from a Tennessee official inside the program in hopes of the public outcry which could possibly stop it.

10:33 AM Lane Kiffin
John Currie reportedly out as Tennessee athletic director. If true hire paul asap as the AD!!!!! Real orange blood. Then he will hire Tee Martin #volsrback #rockytop @finebaum @coachtee17 @espn

10:41 AM Braden Gall
.@Brett_McMurphy just told us that people inside the Tennessee program were calling coaches who Currie was trying to hire and tell them not to come and that it is toxic.

10:49 David Ball WVLT
Update: Chancellor Beverly Davenport will hold a news conference at 4 p.m. today in the Ray and Lucy Hand Digital Studio.

10:50 Darren Rovell
Add John Currie buyout to Butch Jones buyout + Greg Schiano settlement (which I expect at some point) + new coach who will want more $ with no AD in place & this is the most expensive coaching change in history.

11:05 Jayson Swain
Looks like Currie is feeding the national media to ambush Phillip Fulmer. The same national people who praised the John Currie hire. Something is off... Ive known Coach for 14 yrs. He loves Tennessee more than he loves himself. I'm still digging though! Truth over everything!

Tennessee fires AD John Currie over offer to Mike Leach | SI.com

11:07 Brett McMurphy
Yet another source on Tennessee situation: “Your tweets about (John) Currie (& coaching search being sabotaged) are exactly accurate. I know the situation well"

11:09 Bruce Feldman
.@Andy_Staples is on point here. What a mess at #Tennessee this week. Power brokers have been working hard to force John Currie out since Sunday. Currie flies out to meet Leach. Tries to get him hired and Phil Fulmer and Co move to get him canned to blow up the deal.

11:15 SI College Football
Currie was called back to Knoxville after a draft of a Memorandum of Understanding was sent to Tennessee’s general counsel by Leach's team on Thursday http://on.si.com/2i6xuft

11:15 Jimmy Hyams
UT Chancellor Beverly Davenport has called a 4 pm press conference to announce the firing of AD John Currie. Phillip Fulmer has been discussed as a replacement but I can't confirm it is done. Davenport will meet with athletic dept. officials at 1 pm to discuss the Currie firing.

11:20 Trey Wallace
John Currie looks to be giving the National Media a lot of false ammunition right now. #Tennessee

11:25 Jimmy Hyams
Don't be surprised if UT promotes Reid Sigmon to interim AD. Sigmon was hired by John Currie April 25. He worked for Currie for four years (2009-13) at Kansas State. He spent 4 years as College FB Playoff chief financial officer. He's a Wake Forest grad who has worked for Browns

11:30 Jimmy Hyams
Currie was fired after meeting this morning with Chan. Davenport. Currie was pursuing Washington State coach Mike Leach. Currie's contract runs thru June 30, 2022 and he gets $100K for each month remaining. Based on my math (scary thought isn't it?) he's due $4 million.

11:40 Stephen Hargis
From what I’ve gathered so far, I wouldn’t believe some of the stuff about Fulmer backstabbing Currie for the AD job. Been told that’s more Currie throwing Phillip under the bus to his national media contacts

11:43 Dan Harralson
I have been told by a prominent UT booster that Fulmer along with many donors planned today's events & is not at a bad look towards Fulmer. Haslam had Fulmer fired in 2008. Haslam & Currie planned alone in attempt to hire Schiano & never talked to Gruden or any other candidates.

12:10 Chris Landry
UT booster Jim Haslam (brother of Tenn Gov) , who pushed for John Currie to get the AD job, is trying to get Reid Sigmon into the Interim AD role.....He worked under Currie at UT & KST and also worked for Browns where Haslam is owner....

So he was allegedly fired for talking to Leach without permission? That’s what got him canned? Not any of this other stuff?? It’s like a never ending circus.

So an AD goes and tries to make a hire in the athletic department and is fired because he didn't have permission? Who's permission? Haslam? IF true it's time to make the Schiano reVOLt look like a kindergarten fight as to the protest that needs to occur until that sorry ass Jimmy Haslam is put out of any and all power and say so at UT

Basilio says Currie went AWOL. Flight to LA was unauthorized. Had texts when he landed to come home. Interview with Leach was unauthorized. And he just quoted a reporter saying Fulmer has been undermining Currie. Basilio supports Fulmer in this and says Currie will be fired for cause.
