Updated SEC Covid Policy

I have no issues if a team is largely vaccinated but COVID sweeps through a team. Those games should not be a forfeit and they should either be made up/no contest.

I do have an issue when one or two players on a team come down with COVID and a team can not be fielded because most of the team is unvaccinated/subject to contract tracing (cough, Memphis, cough). Those games should be counted as a L and not rescheduled.

No MORE forfeits???? When was the first one?

This was ALL bluster ******** from the get-go. Money. Money. Money.
The Big East was making their teams forfeit but they are going back and adjusting those results and attempting to reschedule those lost games.

Decisions should have consequences, especially when they effect lots of people. Thousands of people lost significant $ because Memphis players didn’t bother to do their part. If that happens in a conference game, the guilty party absolutely should be held responsible.

When did people stop believing in personal responsibility?

Omicron is Vaccine and booster resistant. Vaccination won't save a team from testing positive. Vaccines prevent hospitalizations and death among the vulnerable. College Basketball Players are not obese and have healthy BMIs. Very few have underlying conditions. No Memphis player went to the hospital. All the Browns players that tested positive last week were vaccinated also. Sounds like your issue is more with contact tracing than vaccination?

More with the rules than anything. The rules say that those are vaccinated are not subject to the same contract tracing rules. When you have programs like Memphis that publicly misrepresented themselves (i.e LIE) and their vaccination status to get games, they should be punished when they fall short of being able to play.

God honest question, not gaslighting here, but if a team is 100% vaccinated, and COVID runs through the team to extent of having to cancel games, what’s the point of having 100% vaccination?

Honestly, it's the rules around contact tracing that is why coaches want heavily vaccinated teams. It's not the health impacts. I'm sure schools like it for liability reasons.

The new variant doesn't care if your vaccinated. That's the whole reason for the rule change.
