Explain why Texas and Florida are ahead of Cali in football?

It's more than just #'s it's also culture and where the sport ranks.
And regardless of why. I just wanted that connection for the reasons I have stated.

Of course it is more than just numbers, but numbers play a HUGE part of it. I am just showing you there is plenty if talent in the Carolinas and we don't have to have a CA connection. If the new coach is in tight with Carolina people, there is plenty of talent there. Evidence, Carolinas have more schools in the NCAA than CA. That is not by accident. There is damn good HS baseball in those 2 states.

Given the option I would take someone with a strong connection to all the talent in Cali.

I would hope that our intention would be to recruit every talent base in the country. California, Texas, Carolinas, hell Puerto Rico if possible. Knoxville is an appealing campus, if we raise the visibility of Tennessee baseball the kids will certainly come.

I think the facilities for baseball probably need to be bumped up to SEC flagship level before we can reasonably expect to haul in the best talent nationwide though...

Renovations are about to start on the baseball stadium. We are bidding on them this coming Tuesday. Will it bump us up to top caliber? Don't think so. They just don't look that extensive, but it does appear to be some improvement.

I can remember Hamilton hiring a coach from the Southern Conference and since the hire that coaches team has been to the College World Series at least Three times. Ralph and Karen Weekly from former UT Chattanooga.

Mike Fox was a D-III head coach at NC Wesleyan before taking the UNC job. Look where he is now with UNC.

From what I can understand, this is just a situation of going after more and ending up with less.

A Tennessee connection is much more important. Delmonico got fired because a) his horrible gradution rate, 2) his inconsistant record, 3) he burned so many bridges with TN high school coaches. With 11.7 scholarships (make that 10.7, 'cause of the gradution rates under Delmonico), I'd say having a good relationship with instate programs and coaches would be a good thing (see TN lottery scholarships and in state tuition). Now we have a situation where we lose instate kids to Ole Miss, GT, Vandy, and UNC. And I'm not talking top flight, major pro prospects out of high school. I'm talking guys like the lefty from Farragut last year, who was drafted way, way late and attended UNC. I'm talking the kids he passed on from South Doyle. Brett Carroll, who was a fantastic player from Bearden, wasn't even offered a spot at UT, so he went to MTSU. He made his MLB debut with the Marlins this week. Ole Miss owns Germantown right now. That's not good.

Raleigh was hired for a number of reasons, but the #1 was to improve the grades of players and the baseball APR. Plain and simple.

One thing I do not understand is why ADMH did not offer the job to Leggett. Obviously, he values the guy's opinion regarding baseball enough to make a hiring decision based on it. Maybe I am missing something here but to me it seems like one of those things you would just have to do as part of your due dilligence, like Bama offering the hfc job to Spurrier. This concerns me only because I would hope that when it comes to hiring a new hfc at UTK the administration is not going to be so chiken___t scared of a public rejection that they won't offer a big name guy who requires some effort to sign. Bama was on the verge of looking like fools if Saban had not joined up but they chose not to play their cards close to the vest and things worked out for them.

i dont understand what you meant by that, do you think we offered the job to a bigger name and got rebuffed? I say that when it's all said and done, this turns out to be the baseball equal of CBP's hire.

it's being reported, that Raleigh was the only guy the job was actually offered to. Reports indicate they talked to several others, that have already been mentioned, but that he was the only one that got an offer........
