Update on Tuttle's Recovery

Had a buddy who the doctors told he'd probably never walk again.

Less than two years later, he was running in a marathon.

Not saying defensive tackle is much like soldier or distance runner, just saying this:

never underestimate the power of the human spirit. You certainly can not say Shy will never be the same. For all you or I know, he might be even better.

Only one thing's for certain: we as Tennessee fans shouldn't be selling Shy or any of our other lads short.

Well stated!

You don't show fear or every time Shy takes the field, every OL around will cut block or attempt to cut block him and he'll be useless. If he can he plays whether it's Georgia Auto Body & Fender Repair School or Bama. Perhaps limit the amount of snaps, and contact during practices some, protect him the way they did Maggitt, but if the kid can play and He wants to play and has earned a starting spot, he plays. He's a football player it's what they do and yes he can be just as productive as before, <blue font> love these shade tree MDs and their prognostications here on VN.

Temper your expectations. That's a nasty injury and a massive man and physicality that knee has to support. For him to be ready for the start of the season would be absolutely amazing.

To your point of the severity of the injury I'm surprised the UGA lineman involved didn't see suspension or some kind of serious sanctions. It was pretty clear it was intended as payback, a dirty play from a vocal negative player.

If we can get Shy and KMac eating up multiple blocks in the middle, man, we can be sooooo much better this season up front. Fingers crossed!

I agree, big if's, but if Tuttle and KMac can both be dominate in the middle of the Dline, the whole defense has a chance to be much better this year.......they will probably need to be much better, because on offense the Vols lost big talent to the NFL....it'll be interesting, I'm afraid:eek:lol:

It sounds like he will be ready to go by Georgia Tech. This is great news.

He just started running and GT is in less than two months.

I think the goal for Tutt should be to get him back by SEC play, or maybe even the back stretch of the season. Rushing him back last year did him no favors.

Tuttle may be red shirting.

Might not be a bad idea. I know that is not what anyone wants to hear, but it might be best for him. I'm just glad he's not going to be on the field against GA Tech. Heck, against GT I don't think I'd take him to Atlanta! They might "cut" him in the hallway of the hotel!!!

Suspension, serious sanctions? Handed out by who??? Not the "God's" office of the SEC. You don't think his school would be indigent or outraged enough to act on behalf of a opponent's player? Get real..

If that's the case he needs to man up and take a lead role. I can't imagine Tuttle's conditioning is where it needs to be, and likely what contributed to another injury.

Johnson, Vickera, Kmac, Piccou, Bain and others ought to be able to step up and give Tuttle the time he needs to heal. Would be a bonus if Crosby comes in ready.

I'd push for a redshirt and get his body 100%.

Yea, that is what I am thinking as well. If he is limited going into fall camp then he probably won't be ready for Ga. Tech and there hazardous style of cut-back blocking. Get him ready to go in the swamp. Maybe a couple of snaps vs. Indiana St. to get some live contact.

*Edit: Didn't read Pacers post before commenting. He pretty much nailed it.

Not sure I'd risk playing him against GT and their unorthodox blocking scheme...

I'd break him back in the following week in preparation for the gators...

I agree the last thing we need is a bad chock block on a option against them.

He could be 110% and he ain't seeing the field against GT. My guess is he'll probably get a few snaps against Indiana and if all is good he gets the start against the Gators. They will probably be extremely cautious with him given his history so he may not be given the green light until the Georgia game.

You can bet he will not be playing in the Georgia Tech game. With all those cut blocks they're not going to take a chance on him reinjuring it.

When resiliency, hard work and on field performance is combined, Shy is not even challenged IMO. Guy is a warrior and a stud flat out. Should be representing us next year @ SEC Media Days, if he's still around.

Heard he's a disaster in front of a mic so idk lol

I'd love to see this kid RS...come back 100% next year...if he's just now doing advanced running drills it's hard to see him as truly being ready anytime soon...it feels rushed which is bad for him IMO

IMO our defense is elite when Shy is healthy. Our run defense improves significantly when he's on the field. I see him as similar to Derek Barnett in that he has the capacity to be a one-man wrecking crew.

Hoping for a full recovery, but also sort of resigned to the idea that he may just have injury problems his whole career, unfortunately.

Easy now. Tuttle has flashed at times, but he hasn't played much football at Tennessee and hasn't shown a ton in the way of performance. Sure hope he lives up to the potential that you're describing here. We need him to show up big this year.

Elite? When has our run defense been elite in the last couple of years when Shy was healthy or otherwise. Let's just get to decent to average first, which will require not only a healthy Shy and KMac, but also light years better LB play as well if we are to get there.
