Update on Reese, McKnight & Mostella

I never understood how a player could knock down a 3 but struggle to hit a mid range. I was always taught to work yourself outwards in terms of shooting practice. But I agree, he has a unique skill set.

To be fair he also struggles to hit the 3

I didn't realize there was an NCAA rule on that because of all the early commitments in recent years, but the wording is that the college coach can't initiate contact or return a call if he misses it. The loophole is that the coach can accept calls from prospects before their Junior year, though. I'm sure that the way college coaches are getting around is by giving their number to the prospect's high school coach. If there's a gap between the wording and the spirit of a rule, it will be exploited.

Exactly, and if this kid was any good he would have already heard from college coaches, sounds to be a little sore that he hasn't heard from any and is trying to justify why. You go out and play AAU ball and if you're good enough coaches will find a way to let you know they're interested, this isn't ground breaking news.

Agree. The Reese is a good 3 point shooter thing is a complete myth.

Two things created this myth. Cuonzo said he could shoot the 3 right after signing him and I think fans took that the wrong way. I think Cuonzo was just saying he's not going to be a guy who lives on the block and that he could shoot a little. Then Reese hit 3 threes in his debut against Xavier his freshman year.

He's not a shooter.

I cringed every time I seen him pull up from deep last season. Every now and then he surprised me though and one went in.

I think Bradshaw and JaJaun were nice hits because of Pearl. Under Buzz I think they are guys we never heard from. Jmo

That's possible too. Bradshaw never was uber-talented, but he was smarter and hustled more than anyone else on the court. Smith was simply an ideal fit for Pearl's system. I can't help but think of what kind of player CJ Watson would have been with more than one season in that system.

JaJuan was ranked a 2 star coming out of high school and I know he at least had an offer to UT-Chattanooga. Juany wanted to play for Tennessee, so Buzz promised him the opprotunity to get a scholarship if he did the work and proved to be talented enough.

Skylar McBee was the player that had an offer from Santa Clara (from former Tennessee assistant Kerry Keating).

I know Skyler had a Santa Clara offer too, but I was thinking Smith an offer from a west coast team as well. Can't remember if it was Santa Clara, UC-Santa Barbara, or something. And I may be off too. That's been 10 years now. You're right though, he was a 2*.

CJ for one more year would have been great. Major Wingate for 2 more years would have been pretty awesome too.

You could build a pretty good team out of the guys Pearl dismissed while at UT.

Ramar
Duke
Tabb

I cant remember, why was Tabb dismissed?

Struggle would be a word fit for Jarnell Stokes or Brian Williams. I blame Reese's shot form for the inconsistency. Shot 41% behind the arc as a junior in HS and dropped down to 29% as a senior which is what he's shooting around now.

Yep. I had this argument with a few people earlier in the year.

When did he grow to around 6'9"?

Exactly. It's like there was a scouting report on this kid being a shooter, everyone bought in, then he became a different player and nobody is willing to accept it.

He's the first 6' 9" "shooter" that averaged 11 points for his high school team as a senior.

based on your last couple days activity in this thread, i'd advise you to let sleeping dogs lie, lay low, and gracefully take your small victory on that issue.

You have been wrong on so many levels in the last 48 hours. I wouldn't gloat over one potential "win".

Just some advice. Do with it what you will.

6'7 235

Chris Bosh is 6'11 and can snipe the crap out of the ball. Reese's problem isn't height, it's the way he shoots it.

My point wasn't he's big that's why he can't shoot, there's plenty of tall guys who can shoot. My point was maybe sophomore season he was 6'4" and a pretty solid shooter, then shot up to 6'8". A quick growth spurt like that can throw your shot out of wack, and if he never retooled his form could be a big reason why he's struggled so bad.
