Update on Randy Shannon, DC

Partly because he left. Partly because of unsubstantiated rumors that he said bad things before leaving.

The guy did a very good job. He didn't walk on water. He is not irreplaceable. He left for a) home and b) more than likely a better opportunity to get a HC job he wants. IMHO, he won't be at UW more than two years either before getting a HC gig.

Think you're right. Hated to see him leave but wish him and his family the best.

I seriously doubt Dooley is looking at it that way. He needs to hire someone who can come in and help this team win football games from day 1. I think Shannon can be that guy. Dooley is not going anywhere and I for one am happy to have him as our coach. The quicker the fan base realizes that and starts supporting him the better it will be for our program.

Double Ditto.:good!:

This would be like going to a Nuclear War with a Spoon...Don't think Hart will let this happen....
Or posting messages while talking out your ass. The guy is a good dc, he doesnt have the name recognition, but a good dc nonetheless.

Doesn't anyone who has the title of DC have to be atleast good to have that postion to begin with? I am hoping for the best this time around.

Got a friend with connections to Neil Cornrich and NC Sports. Going to see if he can spill any info.

I said earlier today that Cornrich was the person that would hold this up... He is trying to get all he can for randy!

I came into some information from a good friend of mine who is one of the bigger UT boosters. This is what he told me earlier this evening at dinner regarding the DC situation:

-Dooley has known for a better part of a year that JW would leave for the first PAC-12 job that came available. It was always expected that Simon would follow. However, this all started to become reality two days after Christmas when Washington started showing interested and contacted the UT AD about JW.

-Since then, Dooley (and Hart) have worked to compile a list of replacement DC candidates. Sirmon's spot will be left vacant for the time being to accommodate additional staff the new DC may want to bring in, with Dooley's approval.

-Steele was definitely Dooley's first choice, but Hart didn't feel it was a good fit nor the big time hire that was needed. As he explained it to me, Hart did not want a band-aid just to get through next season, which is how it was described that Steele would be.

-Shannon was a close second and Hart's number 1 choice. Hart made it clear to Dooley that funds would be available to secure him, as it would take "a considerable salary," for the Shannon hire.

-JW informed Dooley on New Years Eve that he would be taking the UW job. Sirmon followed suit the next day. Both were accommodating and offered any assistance to help with the search/transition for the next few days. He's not sure if they were utilized or what they provided but said they were very gracious and accommodating.

-Baring any unforeseen event, Randy Shannon will be the new DC. He and the university have agreed (in principal--not official) through their lawyers to a multi year deal worth over $1million/year plus incentives. Despite Hart's comments on multi year deals, he is treating each coach on a coach by coach basis. Since Shannon is "his guy," it is assumed that there is some leeway on his original comments about multi year contracts for NEW hires.

-Expect an announcement by "late Friday or early Monday," depending on contract finalization.

-He was not sure if Shannon was on campus today, as was rumored.

-There was no team meeting as far as he could tell and so the Palardy tweet, he assumes, comes from Palardy's family being connected to a few high ranking names at the university. There was never an announcement made to the team that caused Palardy tweet what he did. He obtained the information from other means, but still accurate.

That's the latest and greatest. Should be all but a done deal.

Thanks for sharing Doc

Man, SpringBok hears one thing, LWS hears another...

Looks like we need to get ahold of Jerry from Bulls Gap to settle this thing.

I'll hang up and listen.

Wilcox wants a head coaching gig. He thinks it will be easier to get that job in the PAC 12. He had zero chance of landing a gig in the SEC and he knew that. He told me that he wanted to be a head coach when I met him this summer.

Hart and Steele go way back and I have been told that he may be our next DC. He is a South Carolina native, so getting him to leave his home state will be tough, but we are going to throw enough money at him to probably get him.

Randy Shannon has been contacted and he is extremely interested in getting back into coaching. He knows he can't be hired as a head coach at this point because of the Miami situation. I'd say that if Steele doesn't take the job, he will likely be hired.

We are going to have a DC in place before January 19, our biggest recruiting weekend of the year. It will either be Steele or Shannon. Take that to the bank.

Also, Hart thinks Steele would be a good head coach and if the season starts off rough next year, he would be the replacement. Hart and Steele go way back and are very good friends.

january 13th, but yeaaaa.

Didn't Steele go something like 1-9 at Baylor as a head coach? I thought his teams got completely destroyed on a regular basis. It seemed to me Randy Shannon did okay at turning around Miami, to a point. It seems to me RS would be a much better head coach replacement. But if he is good friends with Hart then, by all means, hire away.

i dont see any recruits leaving at all, either hire will be great, if anything we will finish stronger than we would with wilcox. he wasn't one to recruit.
