Not much to talk about this time of year, so I was wondering what the latest is on the renovations. I could not find old thread, but it has been so long since talked about figured it would be fine to start new thread anyways.

I wish they would paint over some of the rusted places.

A rusty orange flaky handrail tore a hole in my brand new Nike shirt trying to squeeze by some people at the Florida game. I say it just needs some paint, another Jumbotron and fix the bathrooms.

the new AD will have to assess and decide on next steps..

Next steps are a few years away I think. Jumbotron in north end zone is planned for the third stage but should be in the first. They repainted part of outside of the stadium last year. I hope they'll paint some more this year.
The east and south lower concourses will be redone soon!

If you went to the Texas A&M game last season you'd realize Neyland needs more than a coat of paint and another Jumbotron.

Neyland is like Fenway Park. It has a ton of history but sitting at awkward angles with obstructed views is only cool because it's Fenway is equal to the cramped rows at Neyland. It's not just the seat width but the width between rows...especially on the W. Sideline.

Well, lets give projected credit where it's due. Many have been whining about the AD being a Hammy clone, so goodbye championships. If so, then you can't fault Hammy for renovation and facilities upgrades. By 2027, Neyland should look like a Vegas Casino, by this reasoning.

the east and south concourses really are horrible. I hope that is the first area of renovation. It would be good for the concourse to be consistent all the way around the stadium

Yea, apparently they don't have a routine maintenance program for the stadium.

There are several older parts of the stadium on the outside that have fallen into disrepair. It's become a real eye sore and shocking to me that they don't spend the money to make the necessary repairs.

I realized how uncomfortable our stadium is after going to the SC game last year. That stadium was way easier to get in and out of and the seats had way more leg space. I love Neyland, but it's hard sitting through the entire game sometimes.

That's another "roomy" stadium. Good point.

Their stadium is 20% smaller too in capacity

That's the tradeoff. I believe DeerPark said a couple of years ago UT looked into installing chairbacks in Neyland. It would reduce the capacity to around 79,000.

Neyland's footprint isn't that big for a 100K seat stadium.

It's not necessarily the width of the seat that bothers me, but the distance between rows. I hate sitting upright, trying to prevent my knees going into someone's back. This makes me want to stand the entire time, stirring up another issue...

That why you want a child sitting in front of you

I go to the game because of the paint

Ok forget the paint and just win. What some of us are saying is you don't have to put in a rock climbing wall, a swanky bar with orange couches, soft cushiony chairs, etc for us to come to the games. We love the 100,000 plus crazy fans at the stadium that is on campus next to the river. I definitely don't want a South Carolina stadium that is stuck in the middle of a parking lot 5 miles from anything.

In Neyland there are already seats with backs, air conditioned suites or you can add backs to your bleacher if you want. "Win and they will come."

I want my own private usher to get me beers every 15 minutes
