According to Fulmer, Donald has done much better at MLB and will be part of the depth building they are doing at the position. I would like to see him come of the edge as a WLB, but that's just me.

It is time for Donald to live up to his hype and become a playmaker this year. Depth is our biggest concern and he could make a major impact this year.

I have been hearing good things about Chris Donald. One thing to remember about him is he is only going to be a redshirt freshman so we do have 4 years with him. I think he will be another great linebacker before he leaves.

After this season, I could agree with that statement. Too many ahead of him right now.

No, I totally agree with you. What I was trying to get across is that, when he comes in to provide breathers for the starters, he has the athleticism to be a playmaker and gain the experience to become a big-time player next year.

I don't think he sees the field this year very much. I want to say though he would be a productive KO Special Teams player though.

I live 30 minutes from where Chris Donald went to high school. My highschool played against Huntingdon the year CD was a senior. I was not very impressed and at the time didnt see him as and SEC worthy player. He was dominated by my school and thrown around by much smaller players. I hope it transforms into what everyone thought he was supposed to be, but im my opinion im not very sure it will happen. Prove me wrong Chris. GO VOLS!!!!!!!:good!:

So Wilson is starting in front of Williams, Reviez (misspelled) and Donald? When do you thnk we will see any one of those three start? Nothing against Wilson but that's a LOT of talent behind him

wasnt it Donald who was the number one rated linebacker in the nation coming out of highschool....

Heres a couple past number 1 linebackers coming out of high school..they seem to did pretty well for themselves I here

Keith Rivers
Earnie Sims

no, he wasn't. Galippo was. but most had Donald at #2. I don't think scout wasn't as high on him as rivals was

Based on your post, Wilson must be pretty good then. I'm guessing if he's beat out all that talent the question is how long will Wilson be around?

Donald plays at one of the most physically and mentally challenging positions in all of football...

Couple that with the fact that he does it in the SEC....I don't know how anyone can expect him to be dominating already...

Seriously...I challenge anyone to name any true freshman that came in and even started at MLB at any SEC school...let alone was a standout while doing it

I think Donald has the physical tools to be an excellent LB here and in time will at least come close to living up to the hype....

I don't care how high he was rated coming in....not everyone can be Eric Berry

Without a doubt Chris Donald has not lived up to the hype. Making an impact as a true freshman as a LB in the SEC is tough, although it is possible as Spikes and McClain proved. So, considering he was the #1 rated ILB in the country, #18 overall player on the Rivals Top 100 and a 5 star player with a 6.1 rating, he has been a little bit of a disappointment.

Now that said, I think he will be good in time and he will make a big impact before it is over. But I think we can all agree he was expected to make an impact already considering the hype surrounding him.

He played in a weak region/division. He was always the best player on the field. Some take longer to adjust to college football, let alone the SEC. I'm sure Spikes and McClain played in very tough regions and divisions, which allowed them to better grasp the playbook as a true freshman.

I honestly do not understand how we can classify him as a disappointment at this point. He still has 4 years left to play. With the high ranking, of course we all wanted him to come in and make a difference as a true freshman a la Eric Berry. It didn't happen. If he is still buried on the depth chart at the end of the year and at the start of next year, I might, then, consider him to be a little bit of a disappointment. Not now, though.

As I said, I think he will be good in time and he will make a big impact before it is over.

However, with the rating he was given, you wouldn't expect him to be a RS Sophomore or even a Junior before he makes that big impact, and it could very well be that long before he makes a big splash.

The problem here is with the rating system that rivals, scout and some of the others use. They apparently only take stats into consideration and not the level of competition a prospect faces during their high school career.

People who are thinking he could a bust are being unrealistic. You can never call a redshirt freshman a bust, or say he hasn't lived up to expectations. I mean it took Robert Meachem 3 years to get it down, but once he did he was a beast. You can't call someone a bust until its all said and done. Just give him some time...

Okay...but they both had one distinct advantage....neccesity...

i.e. They weren't playing behind the eventual #10 pick in the NFL draft

Necessity - an unavoidable need or compulsion to do something: not by choice but by necessity.

Well if that is the logic for starting a true freshman then any team with Ryan Karl as a starting lb and has the #1 LB recruit coming on who can't see that there is an unavoidable need or compulsion to do something about that lacks the sense of sight...
