UPdate From A Booster

Houston Nutt, now that is laughable. I'd rather have Cut than him. He doesn't recruit well or coach well. He has a loaded team this yr and still went 9-4. We have a lot less talent, what would he do here?

Does the guy not have possible criminal charges hanging over his head??? Have we really sunk that low?

That will all blow over. Mike Leach makes the most sense in our situation. Texas Tech won alot of games. Whats the worst that can happen? If we hire David Cutcliffe the Tennessee program will not flourish. Hamilton knows that because if David Cutcliffe was his guy we would have already gotten him. The longer this coaching search continues the more it reveals that MH is NOT sold on David Cutcliffe, and IMO if you are not sold on a guy you do NOT hire him. Period. The end. You keep searching until you find the right guy even if the search takes you past NSD. One recruiting class is not worth and a bad/safe/mediocre hire. Any thoughts?

It may blow over legally, but NO parent is going to let their child play for him. I don't care how good of a coach he is, parents won't send their kid here. Plain and simple...

I agree with your theory, but under the pertaining circumastances the implication wont work. Not many coaches, besides trashy Kiffin, is going to screw over their school right before NSD. We could have gotten Calhoun, Idsell, Kelly, last yr but we chose Kiff.

We have 3 options IMO. A. Pull a coach form the nfl, or not at a program (Lovie, Gruden, etc) B. hire a coordinator (Muschamp etc), or C. Hire within the family (Kippy, and in this case Cutcliffe because he is a TN boy and probably the only coach that would leave his school for us right now)

I agree with your statement for the most part but as much as I hate to "screw over" another University, college football is a business. Tennessee needs a coach. We wont be the first and surely wont be the last to pull away a head coach. It is a sad situation but I am completely onboard with hiring Leach. Yes he just got fired but IMO he will still get recruits. Again, I will reiterate. We do not want David Cutcliffe. We cannot afford for our program to get stagnant which will happen is he is hired. What gets me about the whole situation is that David Cutcliffe supposedly wants to bring his staff with him. That would be disatrous on so many different levels. You talk about downgrading at its fullest. That is why I refuse to believe that MH is going to settle on him. MH is not stupid. He knows the importance of this hire. I can only imagine the offense that Mike Leach would field. It would be unbelievable. He would also fire up the fan base.

I would take Leach as an OC but not HC. He is a Public Relations nightmare and we just had a coach who was a Public Relations nightmare. Funny thing is he might have to be an OC somewhere for awhile if he wants to remain in big time college football. I don't see any major schools offering him a HC position anytime soon.

all these names are poping up, why not hire kippy brown, circle the wagons and take the time to get a good coach. who want to be here.

HARBAUGH from Stanford!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude..I wish too, but it didn't happen for USC, and it ain't happening here.

I've never seen so many coaches not want to move up the ladder, after building their program up (unlike what Kiffin did with us). I don't want us trying to snag first or even second year HC's, but at some point they got to move up. Nevertheless, we just aint hitting it, for whatever reason.

Hamilton's gotta an issue closing the deal

Im just curious to see who MH hires. Do what ever it takes Hamliton we don't want to settle for 6-7 7-6 seasons.

I've tried sifting through the threads here (way too little work getting done) and I hesitate to even bring it up, but have there been any reports on Dungy?

maybe it's becuase everybody knows we're in a bind, and it's a desperiation hire. I was hoping we'd get someone from the pro league - fresh face, new energy - not a recycle.
I'm not against CDC - I'm just praying Hamilton can produce a miracle.

dungy? c'mon man, be realistic.

Exactly!!

However, he is not the first one to bring it up :ermm:

Why would Dungy have left what many may think to be the best team in the NFL to come back a year later to go through the college grind with a team that is going to need a major rebuilding.?.?

I'm a booster, and I heard we are seriously looking at Heath Woods from Carter High School in Strawberry Plains, TN.

This is killing me and all of us Volfans. Why don't we add Lou Holtz to the list? JK. He's always dissed us whenever he talks about us and always picks against us. Herbstreit always defends us. On a serious note, I'm just so glad that Cut isn't coming back to rockytop. I smell a big coach coming though guys. As much as I dislike Hamilton, I think he's really out there trying and gonna get us a Big time coach. Not gonna speculate but there has to be some big names wanting to come to such a great school and big time program as U.T. My hope is a big name proven coach. THAT MY FRIENDS WILL STOP THE BLEEDING AND WE'LL GET REDEMTION!!! GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!
