Untouchable SEC Rivalries

These are the rankings of which ones I think are most interesting to watch because of the intensity. I think watching SC and FL play is wayyy more interesting than SC and GA. Maybe I just hate watching GA.

Looks pretty solid but I guess I just don't get the bammer/barner thing. It is confined to one crappy state in which 90% of the fans are bammers. To me, border state rivalries are way more fun, not to mention that historically speaking Tennessee/bammer is a lot more significant.
Of course the TN/bammer rivalry is not like it was in the 50's bacause TN and bammer are rarely top 10 teams together anymore but TN/bammer was THE game for Bear Bryant and Gen. Neyland.

Until we become relevant again, our rivalries with Bama and Florida will start, or continue if you might say, to diminish on the national stage. To sustain a rivalry both teams must be competitive. The Georgia/Florida rivalry has suffered to some degree in terms of the national audience because of this (even though both teams continue to hate each other). Over a long period of time, rivalries become simply of local interest (Egg Bowl, Tennessee/Vanderbilt, etc.) if both teams are not capable of fielding powerful squads, or one team dominates the series. You start getting the message that this is taking place when your game is delegated to an ESPN game, or the game is nationally televised on network tv simply because of the prominence of one team (say Florida or Alabama), despite the declining status of the opponent (read Tennessee).

That's why i'm kind of surpised Chris Low left out Florida/LSU. They have been in the top 5 or top 10 when they have played the last few years, and it has been nasty.

You don't get it because you don't have an in state rivalry, Vandy? Doesn't count. As far as that "crappy" state, it does have the best college football coach and a NC and 2 schools that recruit top classes each year. Most years that last game between AU and UA determine the west. What does Tn. last games determine, if Tn. can make a bowl game by beating poor old Vandy and Kentucky who everyone in the SEC has already beaten. Real excitement there for the national audience.

It depends on what you mean by untouchable rivalry.
If it was premier rivalry in sec history it would have to be the third saturday, most hated-iron bowl. best current-alabama-LSU

no way man.. iv lived in mississippi all my life and i even went to miss state for a while. and while tennessee is my team, i still root for state when their not playin the vols. the hate that is shared between miss state and ole miss is unreal. its kind of brutal. dont think for a second mississippi state doesn't have fans here. they have plenty. they are loud and obnoxious and will ring a damn cowbell in your ear all day long, win or lose. it used to be a lot cooler when it was played on thanksgiving every year. Iv been to every egg bowl for like the past 8years, and its one of the funnest matchups iv ever seen.

but still...

GO VOLS!!!

I didn't get it either until I lived in Bham for a little bit. I've been to a couple of Yankee & Red Sox games and there is easily more venom and hatred in the iron bowl. They even announce on the news how many people died or made hospital visits over arguments during the game. I think the hatred is due to a gene common to inbreeding.

LSU-Auburn is a better rivalry than some on that list, especially in the last 10 years.

UT-UF is not really considered a rivalry by the rest of the nation. It just became a big game since the dual division SEC and has been one sided for the majority of that time. If UT can ever get to a level where that game is a toss up even when talent levels are not equal, then the game will start to be viewed as a rivalry by football fans outside of UT.

You gotta win some for it to be a rivalry.

The way things have been going, UT in the Florida/UT Rivalry = UK in the UT/UK Rivalry (which = not very competitive).

Dude, there is more to a state than college football. While we love our Vols, the state of Tennessee is the country Music capital of the world. People come from all over the globe to Nashville, Great Smokey Mountain Nat'l park, Jack Daniels Distillery, Beale St. in Memphis ect. Kentucky is the Bourbon and Thoroughbred capital of the world.

Ask anyone in another part of the country what they know about Alabama. I gaurentee you 99 out of 100 will not say "the Iron Bowl" which 90% of the fans cheer for one team. They will more than likely know about how the Nat'l guard had to de segregate the U of A by force.

Having your little in state rivalry is only a big deal to you bammers and the pathetic 10% barner fans.
It isn't as cool as you think it is.

As I wrote, your messiah "the Bear" considered Tennessee his biggest rival. Don't believe me? Look it up yourself.

Every state has tourist attractions and the "home" of something. No use listing them as you did, you can always look them up on the internet if you are unaware of US history. The Iron Bowl is pretty much at the top of any type of rivalry list, and that is what this thread is about. Where you got off listing what Tn. is famous for doesn't seem to have any thing to do with famous rivalry. Mississippi State is only about 60 miles from Tuscaloosa and most people in Columbus and Starkville think UA is a big rivalry game to them whereas UA fans do not think much of the game so it is all relative to how fans see the competition. By the way mountains are nice but Alabama has those too .

Dont think much of Low either. He should move back to South Carolina. He's a bandwagon writer.

All of his Georgia would be taking over the conference early in the decade, over to Florida and now riding Alabama like a .....

Agreed. If there's a reason UT/Bama is behind UGA/Florida, it's because Alabama has another bigger rival, IMO. Two historically best teams in the conference makes a compelling case.

What do you mean by whole experience? As far as the actual rivalry, top 5 is probably going a little too far, IMO. It's big, but I definitely think there at least 5 rivalries I'd have ahead of UGA/Florida in all college football.
