Unofficial Coaching Search Thread

From my perspective, Hart has hired one coach at the University of Tennessee, and I think we are all quite pleased. Hasn't he earned a little equity to make a good decision here?

Far out thought here, but what do folks think about an interim coach? I can't help but think a year to get this one right might be a good call given the bleak outlook for next year's team. While everyone else is scrambling for a coach at the end of the year, we can be a first-mover on the "it" guy. That also gives a year for all the negative media attention to die down. I think Ohio State is glad they did this in football.

Well there's your problem

With his only hire at UT being Butch Jones, I'll give him the benefit for the doubt till he proves otherwise.

Choosing not to overpay, or give more to an unproven 3rd year BB coach than he felt comfortable is a long way from losing my trust he is looking out for Tennessee.

I was also 100% fine with Hart cutting Zo off at the knees with his "extension" package. Another looking out for UT moment.

We'll see how it plays out.

He was set to overpay, his mistake was getting on a plane without a signed MOU, so that theory is BS

Since Dave Hart is determined to hire a coach on the cheap, why not hire a high school basketball coach. I'm sure he could get by paying him $100,000 per year with a low buyout. After all, it appears that is what is important in his search for a new coach.

Who is the third best high school B ball coach in East Tennessee? First two are unrealistic imo.

Is it true they have NOT contacted Cronin? I bet he would take the job. He was my first pick when Martin left.

Anyone saying Cronin has not been contacted by UT IMO would be guessing. I doubt anyone knows exactly who UT has reached out to and who they have not.

Could White have been a "just in case" kind of option? Is it possible that we were in talks with a more well known coach, told White that the job was his if the deal with so-and-so didn't go through, and White has turned us down because we've actually about come to terms with the mystery coach in my imagination?

To be fair, I know that's incredibly unlikely, but I'm trying to be optimistic here. After all, everything that has been said on this coaching search is really just speculation anyway as far as I'm concerned.

I hate to shut you down, but no, not even a chance. Hart called and few big names, so they could be reported as being called. Now he is on to the small, cheaper, fish he was always going to go after. Welcome to our UTAD

Like I said, wishful thinking from the start. I just have to do something to rationalize to myself why White feels that LA Tech is a better gig than ours, so unrealistic conspiracy theories are what I'm fueling myself on right now.

IMO it's less about LAtech and more about the Ole miss job opening up in the next year or two.

If Mizzou's willing to blow more than 3 million per year on Marshall, I'm fine with that. You're getting into Thad Matta/Izzo/Donovan range at that point, and you don't know yet if he's anywhere near that good.

If Marshall goes to Missouri I'll be somewhat surprised, but he may. Missouri has as many coaching issues as we do. This will be their 5th head coach since 2005, one left due to NCAA issues, 2 left for other jobs that were equal to it or worse. At least this will only be our third.

In 2020 every coach that has been mentioned on Vol Nation as a possible coach would have moved on to another job or been fired except Rick Byrd. He is a great coach, a Tennessee graduate, and would still be our coach winning big games in 2020 just like he is now at Belmont. It only makes since to hire Rick Byrd now!!!

Because he will be retired?
