Unofficial Coaching Search Thread

Who remembers what happened in December?

They remember the teams that went deep into the Tournament and who won the Tourney. It is the benchmark by which coaches and programs are measured.
see, this guy gets it.. and is exactly right.. are you the ncaa champion after the regular season is over??

they scored almost 50 points in the first half and our team was totally unprepared for their pick and roll/pop game. He also allowed Beilin to pick us apart by having Maymon guard GR3. How you deflect away from that is typical though. Are you able to watch games and judge what's happening on the court? Or are you one of these stat guys that has no clue and learns the game from a sheet of paper?
Not giving anybody a pass. The fact is Archie is in his 3rd year and took a team to the tourney. Martin has the same amount of tourney appearances in twice the time and doesn't know or see the game as well as too many of his peers.

In terms of the Michigan game, they pick everyone apart with the pick and roll game. They have shooters at the 1-4, they spread the floor keeping the help side defense away from the help, and attack the rim. If you help they bury 3's. If anything, U.T. got smart and stopped helping in the second half, ceding Jordan Morgan layups instead of Stauskis 3's. Texas 79pts(Rick Barnes), U.T. 73 pts (Martin), and Kentucky 72pts (Cal) all gave up over 70 pts to Michigan. Did Barnes and Cal also not watch tape?

Archie is in a conference that gets multiple bids, and yet, should have been in the play in game, except for a little issue of the play in game being in Dayton. I'm not saying Archie is a bad coach, I think he is a good coach, still learning how to run a basketball program. He way underachieved last season with essentially the same roster he had this year, lost to some terrible teams this year, squeaked into the tournament, and went on a nice run. Archie is going to need patience to figure out how to be consistent on a night to night basis. I just don't see how you can love Miller and strongly dislike Martin, when their resume over the last 3 years is almost identical.

Cheek would have never let him in here!
:eek:hmy:

I wonder if Popeye jones would be interested (btw I realize there is like a 0.1% chance of this happening, but you never know at ut)

I was wrong. Martin and staff were prepared for michigan. There weren't communication issues and guys always seemed to know where the picks were coming from. We didn't give them an easy looks, open layups or open 3's. Help d was always there. They were just lucky to get clearouts against Maymon and we were as prepared as possible.
We made them work for every bucket. Tougher breed.

How's this guy sound....

36 years old, has 5 years of head coaching experience, been at 2 mid majors, has an overall record of 105-50. That's an average record of 21-10 in his first 5 seasons, has 1 NCAAT appearance, and also won the NIT.

Sounds like a hot up and comer right?

Michigan average 75 points a game, U.T. held them to 73. They have two guys that will be drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. They gave the exact same problems to Texas and Kentucky. U.T. played them down to the wire, just like Kentucky. If not for a miracle Harrison 3 pointer they would have been in the final 4. Sometimes good teams score points. I'm not sure what you were expecting out of Michigan. Further, Maymon played 17 minutes against Michigan. Short of simply benching the heart and soul of the team, what did you expect Martin to do. Maymon had to guard someone.

The "trip up north" makes no sense now though.

I'd be alright with the hire, guy shows a lot of potential. Still disappointing if Marshall really was interested.

Didnt parrish also say the CCM got an offer from Marquette and was hit flat cold on CCM departure to Cal?

Why does it make no sense? They went and talked to Archie and it was more than they wanted to spend, so they moved on?

Depends...did he take a Tulsa team that was in the middle of a 10 year NCAA run and only get them to the NIT in his one year stop?
