the smart money will be on Jon Pelphrey from Florida. SEC experience. inherited a bad situation at Arky. Sitting under a guy who has had major success. Won't cost very much.

I would not mind looking at some assistant coaches from some top teams.
Some current head coaches and then some possible assistant coaches to look at:

Current Head Coaches

* Fred Hoiberg - Iowa State

* Fran McCaffery - Iowa.

* Rick Barnes - Texas.

* Dan Dakich - ESPN announcer and former coach at Indiana and Toledo.

Current Assistant Coaches at Top Schools

* Steve Forbes - Wichita State - coached at UT under Bruce Pearl. Ace recruiter and coach.

* Kurtis Townsend - Kansas - ace recruiter.

* Norm Roberts - Kansas

* Dwanye Stephens - Michigan State

Richard Pitino at Minnesota, knows recruiting at big time level and in this part of the world, plays great pace of ball and real up and comer.

I would rather hire my 3 year old grandson. You think this is not a bad situation at Tennessee! The die hard Pearl fans have really screwed Tennessee and seem to be proud of it. I wish all these boards would "blow up" and disappear or review posts and eliminate those who are so negative toward Tennessee. Like some who try to mellow their posts by saying" it was a joke", this is not a joke.

Tennessee is actually more appealing than most think... Dooley/Sunseri's contract payouts come off the books in a year or so, SEC Network money helps tremendously, Nike, and the Cal buyout money will likely be used to pay off replacement's buyout. Top 5 Candidates IMO:

1) Marshall
2) Smart
3) Howland
4) Byrd
5) Robinson

And I'm just gonna throw out a wild card for kicks... Allan Houston. Experience - Not so much. But with Phil Jackson now running the show who knows what will happen. He's revered in Knoxville and NBA success/affiliations could help with recruits considering a One and Done path.

Rick Stansberry will be top target if they are not going on the cheap. If thats the case go after the cat at U Mass and let him finish his degree at Pellissippi St.

Rob Lewis on if TN will pay BIG money.

I am told that they they would toss some large money around for the 'right' guy, but I would need to see that to believe it.

My opinion is that if you're going to call Greg Marshall for example, you better be ready to write a check for $2.7-ish. I'm skeptical that they would do that, but Brent and I both have had some sources insist that they would. We will see.
