I'm afraid that we'll see more of this as time goes on. Hard to blame the guy but it just goes against everything I believe in.

"I have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing in any additional games this season," Sluka said. "I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled. Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program."

According to multiple sources, UNLV agreed to an NIL deal which they were paying. The QB hired a new agent during the season & they tried to get more.

When the whole NIL thing started thought that Tennessee would be the first school
that something like this would happen.

It's sounding more and more like good old fashioned extortion.

Someone is going to come out of this looking bad. Either the kid has gone mercenary which will make him poison to another team or UNLV didn’t fulfill their end of the deal and they’ll be poison to other recruits.

Should be interesting to see what happens next.

Either way it’s been clear for awhile that rules for NIL need to be made. What those rules should be are a lot less clear.

The NCAA is going to have to allow binding contracts or this will be the norm instead of the exception.

This is such a wild situation.

Even if UNLV did screw him (which is disputed), I still don't think it is in his best interest to just leave in the middle of the season. He's playing really well on a team that has a not-insignificant shot to make it into the playoff. Does he not have NFL aspirations at all?

I think you drastically overestimate the long-term thinking skill of the average person.

Oh trust me, I'm not overestimating the thinking skill of a 22-year-old football. I would think that he'd be getting better advice from people around him, particularly a professional agent.

He might have aspirations but not much of a strong outlook for an NFL career. He's maybe at the bottom of the top 30 QB prospects for 2025 in what is really a weak class on paper.

I think it more likely that he knows this is his one shot to capitalize on being a football player, and he's trying to maximize the return. Or they really didn't deliver on what they committed, and he's holding them accountable to it publicly.

Instead our collective was the first to do it big…and right. All on paper!

Welcome to the new world of college football. Might as well get used to it. This isn’t much different than the situation with the Florida recruit. This one just happened in season. It won’t be the last one.

Now if they paid him the agreed upon amount, that’s a different (and uglier) situation. I agree that is pretty much extorting the school. But again, that won’t be the last time for that either when agents get involved.

So you believe in fighting for those you break promises and trust to you? Fascinating

No, I believe in finishing what you started but completely understand what college athletics is these days. Hence why I said "hard to blame the guy".

If you were building a house for a housing developer and found out they weren’t going to pay you, you would continue building it for them?
