I got blasted for a thread I started yesterday in which I opined that I really don't want to see the Vols play in a bowl game if the Music City or Independence are all we can get. I can't say that I changed my mind on this but the responses to that post got me to thinking, where can we really wind up? The way I see it is we are Shreveport bound unless Bama plays in the Rose Bowl and a second SEC team sneaks into a BCS bowl. There is really no way that Ole Miss upsets LSU so count the following teams as ineligible: KY, Ark, Miss. St., Ole. Miss, and Vandy (I am assuming UT wins out). No matter what there will be five conference teams with decent travelling fans bases that have better records than UT, so obviously the BCS slot, Capitol 1, Peach, Outback, and Cotton are spoken for. This means that it comes to us and SC for the Music City. the best we can finish is 6-5, that is the worst SC can finish. Assume SC does drop its last two games to UF and Clemson (could happen) and imagine that you are on the Music City Bowl board of directors. Do you want an un underachieving 6-5 UT, most of whom's fans who do bother to show up will not fill up hotel space and drop money in downtown for a few days? OR, do you want a 6-5 SC team who'se fans have not been to a bowl since the end of the 2001 season and who are energized to travel by their new coach? Not to step on any toes but the answer is pretty obvious. The only way UT avoids the weedeater bowl is a loss or to hope that USC or Texas drops a game, Bama gets to the Rose Bowl and a 2 loss Florida or LSU somehow gets into a BCS game.

Well, i see it playing out this way, and keep in mind, after the BCS makes its selections, it's up to the individual bowls to pick what's left, in thier pecking order, so actual conference finish really has nothing to do with it, after the BCS anyway...

I see LSU winning the SEC. Bama won't win the next two games. They'll get the automatic BCS bid, and then if the Tide are still ranked in the top 6, they can go as well. a one loss Bama team makes a VERY attractive bowl selection...especially if you can get them against PSU or ND in the Fiesta...it will sell out and tv ratings should be great.
UGA gets Capital one.
Florida gets Outback (don't be suprised though if USC wins out, ha!, if they wind up here)
Auburn gets Cotton
USC gets Peach (the Peach would love this match up against any ACC school...would lock a sell out again)
We get Music City, and NO SEC team goes to Shrevport...the independence bowl would probably not select us for fear of poor fan turnout (look at UT attendance over the past few years to any bowl for reasons why)
Music City could at least lock in a good local turn out and probalby a good day travel crowd.

If Bama wins the SEC, then that will be the only BCS team for sure. so then knock everybody else down a rung, and we're still in Nashville!!

I we win out, we are going to the Music City Bowl. If we do not win out, well, then we'll "be home for Christmas".

The thought of a losing season will be talked about for a long time especially with a 3 ranking preseason. I much rather finish 6-5 and aim for a 7th victory. If we dont get an invite which will be unlikely it will be in Nashville. Vandy is 4-5 and a loss to to UT they will stay at home. Provided vandy beats Ky, the winner of the vandy and ut will be for the nashville bowl. It will guarantee one these teams wont have to travel far for bowl season.

I can buy into this scenario. Either way it takes two SEC schools getting into the BCS for UT to get to Nashville. The Music City people are going to take SC over us if they get the chance. SC has the head-to-head. The SC fans will stay overnight, use the airport, etc. in much greater numbers so it is more $ for the local economy. Also, the Spurrier story adds a little cache to SC right now that UT is missing.

yeah, but i think the Music City has last pick, if i'm not mistaken, and i can promise, USC will be taken at that point, so it won't matter...if we're bowl elligible, we're in Nashville...at this point it really doesn't matter how...just so long as we're there.

no no no no no! :nono:

There will be seven bowl eligible teams (if UT makes it). The Independence Bowl has the 7th pick, Music City is 6th. If there are not 2 SEC teams in the BCS we get #7. Rev up your weedeaters boys!!!!! WOOHOOO!

How many bammers will be pulling for us in the next three games? Don't tell me that ya'll are pulling for us to go to a bowl game. This time Rocky Top will be played by our band, not Minny's. :boredom:

bama is going to win out.... its in the stars man, its the only way our season can be any worse....

but i think before we worry about other teams winnin or losin, we need to consider the fact that we still have to find a way to beat 3 good footballl teams... 2 of which are better than the south carolina team that beat us....

I pull for all SEC schools during bowl season..and if one does wind up with an opportunity to play for a NC, then i will pull for them as well, though i do admit hoping NEB would beat the hell out of UF in 95, got that Christmas wish!

But until that actually happens, geaux tiggers! Sorry Bammer. Round the bowl, down the hole, roll tide roll!

I wouldn't go as far as to call myself a "closet 'Bama fan," but I don't have the same hatred for them that some people here do. Probably has to do with my young age and the fact UT has OWNED 'Bama in my life time or since I've been paying attention to UT Football, and I don't see what the big deal is...

With that said... I HATE Florida. Agh.
