UNC Basketball, Part Deux

Well, if we're going to win this one it's going to require pulling it out our rectum like Duke last Wednesday.

I don't see that happening, but I hope it does.

The most pathetic home game performance in the history of the Dean Dome.

Roy and this team should be absolutely ashamed.

We let a pathetic ass team that will probably lose in the first round of the NIT come in here and just whip our asses clean.

This is the most embarrassing loss of the Roy Williams era.

I'm done with this team. May God wish them well on their way to NITs-ville. (I honestly don't think we make the NCAA anymore, unless it's as a 12-13 seed).

I never realized what a good college player James Michael McAdoo was before this season.

I think you forgot to take your Prozac.

It was cute since Roy was 28-2 vs State prior to tonight and won 23 of 25. I can't remember the last time State was trending upward and it was the opposite for the Heels. The only thing that bothers me is the laser focus UNC will have for Duke and how that place will be even more amped.

State secures an NCAA bid tonight and UNC has to start wondering how they are ranked #15 with 9 losses. UNC can still salvage this season because the talent is there, but Roy needs to get his **** together mentally. That's obviously easier said than done.

The team is flawed. It will take a tremendous coaching job to overcome it. I just feel like there's been a lot of wasted talent in chapel hill recently. But I'm just a casual observer

I feel like Roy is in his Greg Paulus/ Josh McRoberts phase. He's missed on some guys, but they'll win a few they shouldn't and lose more than they should. I understand UNC fans being pissed, but UNC is UNC and you'll find the right formula. Roy irks me with his huckleberry crap, but he's a very good coach who seems to be in a bad place right now. Some of you guys would be wrong to write him off. As I said, who are you going to get that's better?

Why the hell am I talking UNC fans off the ledge?

Duke has a chance to break them for the season in that game. Real gut check for UNC.

I'm sure it was the home crowd's fault. Pathetic! RW needs to be a man and publicly admit that his childish rant about the crowd was out of line. He needs to worry less about how rowdy the crowd is and more about which switches he needs to flip to get this team performing to its full capacity.

Okay, UNC will probably make the NCAA, albeit with 11 or 12 losses most likely.

But no one can tell me that wasn't the most embarrassing home loss of the Williams' era, and possibly even going back further.

Lowest point total in the history of the Smith Center. That's kind of honoring the 4 corners.

McAdoo and Hairston were supposed to be seniors this year. Every school these days get hurt by players leaving early, and I think that is an area that Roy hasn't quite figured out how to manage, and because of that, it always seems to hurt UNC more than other schools. Carolina, regardless of the stars that have come through the program, has always been more about the team and not the transcendent superstar. The "whole being better than the sum of the parts" type thing. Harrison Barnes is really the only consensus, surefire "one and done" type recruit that Roy has signed, maybe in his tenure at Carolina.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Maybe Roy has lost his recruiting touch, but I don't really think that is the case. Maybe he's not going after the "one and done" types as hard as he could or should. Maybe they ain't "coachin' 'em up" like they used to or maybe these guys just ain't as good as their high school press clippings.

I don't know. But I don't like it.

UVA in 2010 was definitely worse.

But I don't think losing to NC State is necessarily embarrassing, it was more so the manner in which they did. What's more embarrassing, losing to NC State or losing to Belmont at home last year?

Losing to NC State.

Belmont actually has a good basketball program.

I agree. I think the dynamics of recruiting at the top level has shifted and Roy hasn't mastered it like other top programs have.

I know you UNC guys aren't really going to like this, but who has Roy put in the league from UNC that has turned into a star? Barnes is a 10 & 5 guy, Felton is good, Danny Green is a good role player, who else? I'm sure I'm overlooking some players, but the fact that it doesn't immediately come to me should tell you something. UNC can no longer live on the we put the best guys in the league routine like they did for so many years. I don't like the current state of college basketball, but I agree that Roy has not adapted the way K has and how Calipari has flourished under the current system.

Calipari can say to recruits "See how many 1st rounders and millionaires I've helped mold." K can talk about Kyrie, Jabari Parker, soon Okafor, and then say " I was talking to Lebron and Kobe last night and they both thought that your game really reminded them of themselves." USA Basketball really has turned a major recruiting tool for Coach K.

I was in the same mindset as a lot of UNC fans in September 2009. You guys were coming off of a title and then Harrison Barnes pulled that bull**** announcement on Skype. And then everything changed. I don't feel sorry for UNC at all, but it's not the doom and gloom it seems.

You serious, Clark?

Are you serious?

to answer your question, unequivocally, NC State. They at least have 2 sweet 16 appearances in that time frame.

Just because Belmont ruled a terrible conference doesn't make them a better program.

There are two years in the history of Belmont basketball that they had a better team than NC State, and that was in the depth of the Sydney Lowe era.

U just mad that it was NC State... and it's obscuring your thinking. Just absurd.

Got the road win today. Win their last two (GT, Duke) and they should get the #4 ACC Tournament seed and a free ticket to the quarterfinal round. They're a game back of Louisville, who hosts Notre Dame and Virginia.
