Unbelievable coach ready to accept UT's offer

I'm biased but it was mentioned in another thread- June Jones. It'd ruin my alma mater, but UT could do much worse. I don't know if he'd leave Dallas though, he's already making $2 million at SMU

still waiting for that "huge splash" of a coach that footballscoop.com is referring to. oh wait, maybe they mean it literally not figuratively. mangino it is then.

Despite the fact that the football program has paid for most of their facilities, and their equipment?

The whole point of my OP is that I don't want our school to become like Alabama. Obviously, the football program is our cash cow and we hold it in higher regards than the other programs, because it DOES pay for the other programs. I just don't want to be like 'Bama and have nothing worth cheering for 8 months out of the year.

I do not see UT writing the check to get Stoops. He is one of the highest paid coaches in the country now. We would have to give him about 150 Pilot stations to get him to Knoxville.

This is the same athletic department that wrote out a $650,000 check to get a bag of horse sh*t like Ed Orgeron just a year ago. They'd pony up to get Bob Stoops in a heartbeat.

OK. The donors and Hamilton need to decide once and for all. Is TN going to be a football powerhouse or not. The only thing they can do to keep us from falling forever to the ranks of Vandy is to ante up and go after a big name and throw the money til they get him. If they don't do that, then we're doomed as a program for many years. If he doesn't bring in a coach these kids will be excited about, and do it in the next two days, we'll be down so many scholarship players that we won't be able to even compete with Vandy anymore. I think Cutcliffe is a good coach, and honestly believe he was the mastermind behind our program in the good years, including the NC year. However, I don't think hiring David Cutcliffe will excite these kids and keep them around. Maybe those Srs. who actually played under Cut would, but probably no one else. It has to be a big name, now, or we pick up almost no recruits and we're sunk for several years. Hopefully Hamilton knows this and is just send out fake news to keep people off track of who he is really talking to.

This is actually the 3rd time I've heard this from different people. I wish it would be a rumor that would come true. That would be a nice catch though.

I love the ultimatums coming from people here, as if Hamilton and the boosters don't realize that this is important or Hamilton isn't trying for the best possible hire.

The man's got a lot better grasp on things than everyone on here.

Reported that Jhon Gruden is thinking about returning to coaching, and that Tenn.has a place in his heart.Could it be?

Just got a text from knox news that says Troy Calhoun calls team meeting. Please dear god dont let it be him. We will loose every recruit were barely hanging on to as it is.

Im gonna take a roundabout approach to our current situation in BIG ORANGE COUNTRY,

Take a mulligan. If we can get a Bob Stoops or Tony Dungy, or some huge hire take it if it fits but, don't settle to just get a name in town to supposeably save this recruiting class, take a mulligan.

With less than three weeks until NSD, MH needs to do the first smart thing he has done in a while, play it safe. Either way his job is canned, our recruiting class is in turmoil and there is no way around it. The Damage is done!!!

Make the only faithful coach on our team thats left the interim head coach for the year KB, either way we will be an underachieving team who knows he could be the man for the job.

Dont bring in someone who does not fit in, give them a huge contract, and hope it works out. Use the upcoming year to get a big name head coach to come to town when things settle down and start working on his own recruiting class his own way, we are way to late in the game to sign a huge big name coach, its a no win situation either way. We dont need to make a brash decision, its to much of an important one to make in less than a week. If recruits leave they leave, we need to build for the long term future not damage control. WE ARE TENNESSEE WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS!!

FU KIFFIN AND COMP. :furious3:

Sorry for the long post, had alot on my mind. GBO!!!

This assessment is correct. As close as this program was just last week to significantly turning things around and becoming a player in the conference again, unless we make a huge hire here, it will set this program back for four to five years minimum. The depth on this team is already non-existent, and without an extremely big-name hire, we will lose the overwhelming majority of this recruiting class and it will take us years to recover.

Additional Info:

Just listened to the replay of Mike and Mike on ESPN radio.
I can Confirm he did not rule it out. Also said that the last 48 hrs in Knoxville had Blown his mind. Stated that Tennessee was close to his heart, that's were he meet his wife. probably the most telling words he said were that he had in his "Laboratory" taken a close look at all the college offenses, the spread and such. Looking in on how to improve on them and defend against them.

ESPN is reporting also that Troy Calhoun has called a 5:30pm meeting with the team. Oh God, please don't let it be Troy Calhoun. What has Vol Nation done to deserve this?

I'm just hoping he's calling a meeting to say that he's staying at the Air Force academy.

There is still a slight hope for JG. He did leave the door open and he's gotta be itching to get back into coaching. I know its a long shot, but its a closer shot than Bob Stoops!
