Unbelievable coach ready to accept UT's offer

Personally, I wish the Vols would get Schiano from Rutgers. He is a proven winner and proven recruiter for Florida and South Florida kids. Imagine what he could do at a bigger school like UT. He has numerous connections at HS in South Florida and is well respected in Florida!

He crossed my mind as well...

SportingNews.com's Matt Hayes reported Wednesday that former NFL coach Jon Gruden also rebuffed Tennessee, leaving Duke coach David Cutlcliffe, Houston coach Kevin Sumlin and former Vols coach Phillip Fulmer as potential candidates for the opening.

Does anyone else throw up in their mouth with the thought of any of those bottom 3 being our HC? JESUS. PAY THE MONEY HAMILTON....SEE BAMA!!!

Just look at his roster at Rutgers, he has like 10-15 players from South Florida and I think he has more commitments this year from Florida plus he has kids from as far as Ca. to the east coast to the south on his roster so Tenn. needs a coach that can recruit nationally such as him. Plus, he is young!

Everyone's turning it down anyway. I guess it might be because of the timing, or the job isn't as attractive as most are thinking it is.

What sucks about all this is the bowl practice for EEs and returning players such as Stephens is all for nothing now. New coach, new offense. Man I hope USC gets on probation

This is like completely totaling your car and sitting there staring mournfully at the wreckage and lamenting about how you just filled the tank up yesterday.

(Which I have done.)

Does anyone think that our reaction to Lane Kiffin leaving has anything to do with our program being unattractive or intimidating at the moment? We are this unbelievably devoted fan-base to our program. I just wonder with all the hatred expressed towards Kiffin uprooting the way he did, if that has put off other possible coaches.

its the timing. no HC with any amount of integrity is going to leave his program right now. so we are left with coordinators that won't excite anyone. Stick with Kippy!

You're naive if you don't.

We choose not to be as single minded as Alabama. I prefer that we spread our wealth fairly amongst our athletic teams, rather than just pouring all our money into football.

Take it from a guy living in a Big East town, you don't want Schiano. Great guy, decent recruiter, but when you're looking at the guys he gets out of Florida, you have to look at the talent level. He's getting the second tier talent, not top tier. He's a great motivator, but not the greatest overall X's and O's guy. Edsall is the same way, but I don't see him leaving UConn.

Hamilton is going to have to pull something magical out of his arse to be able to salvage this recruiting class. Honestly, I think the best thing to do is to not worry about this class and just get the right guy, and pay whatever it takes to do that. This recruiting class will still be a top 20 class even if they lose 5-8 of the commitments and then the right coach can take that and run with it with a top 5 class next year.

If Hamilton does something stupid and hires someone like Calhoun or Sumelin, then you're going to lose a lot of guys from this class and you won't be able to recruit a top 5 or even 15 class next year. This is UT football and Hamilton needs to act like it and pony up $4+ million if he has to.

Then the Board of Trustees need to can the guy the day after he hires the new coach!

Not at all...

I am convinced that idiot sportswriters and bloggers throw a bunch of names into a dog kennel when a coaching search is taking place, and then use whichever names the dogs crap on in their stories.

Despite football being the cash cow?

I'm just saying I like where our men's and women's basketball teams are right now, as well as our tennis, golf, and baseball programs. I don't think we should be reaching into their pockets to fund the football program.

Despite the fact that the football program has paid for most of their facilities, and their equipment?

you honestly think those programs could support themselves without big time football at UT. Maybe tennins and golf are cash cows and I'm underestimating them but I doubt it

I'd be happy with Schiano. UT could do much worse...
