Unbelievable coach ready to accept UT's offer

To get stoops, it would take $6-7 mil plus tons of benefits. UT would be able to pay that easy.

HatVol,

How do you know about Stoops? What was said about this exactly? I can't see him even considering the job if he turned down ND, but maybe he wants the new challenge of the SEC? I cant imagine we could pay more than OU once you figure in the buyout
I've got a number of friends around the OUAD and in the Oklahoma City media. Tennessee has attempted to gauge Stoops' interest through intermediaries. That's as much as has happened.

Calhoun is a great coach that would have us in good shape in 5-6 years, but I don't think anyone is willing to wait that long.

His big strike is that he doesn't have big name or personality that would attract big recruits early, so it would take time to gradually build up talent as they see the product on the field.

I just find it hard to believe he would leave OU to inherit what could be a total disaster.

is the 50/50 at best, the level of interest that Stoops has shown or the perception of the people around him?

My inside source tells me that it's between:

Ed Gennero, Texas State Armadillos (Disciplinarian, knows how to win with lesser talent)
Sam Winters, ESU Timberwolves (Great recruiter, but tends to bring in guys with questionable character)
Bud Kilmer, West Caanan HS (STRICT disciplinarian, proven winner, Texas ties)

Sam Winters worked wonders with Joe Cain....FWIW

How is that 50-50 exactly? Has he been upset there recently? I could see that with their problems w/ injuries and losses in BCS games, but he's still a hell of a coach. I would think the challenge of the SEC would be intriguing, but that's a lot of job security to leave behind.

Seriously? Are the Haslams ponying up the bucks or what? That's more than Saban makes IIRC and Bama really threw the bank at him

Wouldn't be a disaster if he came here. We'd probably lock up another top ten class, plus Florida is on the downswing with no Meyer/Tebow and UGA is still coached by Richt last time I checked.

Let's see, last year before the Kiffen hire, there was a hot rumor on VolNation that Pete Carroll was unhappy with USC's facilities and would be UT's next coach for sure. So ..............

The consensus of people around the OU program.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, they're saying its 50-50 he leaves OU for UT? If so, there should be an armored truck en route from Knoxville to Norman right now. Did they say this when ND was interested?

50-50, at best. I get the impression they think he'd listen, but ultimately stay. There was no real interest from either side in the Notre Dame situation.

If there is that good of a chance with Stoops, and UT doesn't try everything to get him, and just goes straight for Muschamp, then Hamilton should be out right away. This isn't a time to look for a bargain. I understand if he says no. But if he's willing to come, pay him everything.
