His senior year in high school, his school (I think it was Beech but I can't keep them straight), for some strange reason played in our tiny schools jamboree. Dude didn't even ride the bus with the team, he rode in his own motorcade. So I am sure he is used to being treated like a diva. And I noticed a huge change to the offense in A&M when he didn't play versus how they looked with him there, so I definitely believe dude isn't a team player and it is having an effect. HOWEVER letting that get out of hand winds it's way back onto Butch's lap of responsibility.

Hurd failed concussion protocols and it's why he didn't play. Hurd pulled himself out of a game earlier this season.
Hurd doesn't like the scheme or how he's being used

All of this according to Vol74 who has been spot on.

Maybe vol74 should update these rumors... didn't he suggest he was family, so he has the poop.

You must live in Hartsvegas!!! I think they played in TC that year.

If I was Hurd, I'd be *****ing too. Dude has no blocking and runs into a wall everytime he touches the ball.

Matter of fact, everyone on this offense should be questioning the staff because this offense makes no sense what so ever. It's a misdirection/read offense with no misdirection.

Looked like Kelly didn't have trouble running. Piss poor coaching to not play him more especially yesterday. Hurd seems slow

Butch should have been pissed 4-5 games ago and not gotten over it.

Spot on, brother. In fact, he could have used these exact words to discuss the first half of every game this season. He has allowed something to fester that has destroyed the will of this team.

I saw another thread that cherry picked CBJs comment that there was "no need to panic" which came after he blasted his team, his coaches and himself for an overall piss poor performance. I thought it muscharacterized his attitude and message. Some of y'all should really read articles and not headlines

I welcome the ass chewing because I think the players reflect the coaches fire. When you read the player post game comments they are still talking about injuries and their lost teammates and how hard it is. Suck it up.

Jones sent a pretty clear message
- Injuries aren't an excuse versus the talent we are playing
- There needs to be on field leadership
- He won't put up with lethargy
- He knows his seat is hot

I translate it to mean that Kelly will be playing more and Dobbs may not finish the year as a starter. I also forecast a Mike Debord departure this year. But most worrisome is that I think Butch has a team of talented individuals focused more in staying healthy before the NFL combine.

For the RBs - I kind of get it as this team and scheme put them at risk.

For everyone else - no excuses. Dobbs has made decisions and throws this year that he has never made in his career. He isn't reading defenses. I personally think next years starter is being redshirted and that Dormandy shouldn't start. Our best QB is JG. Besides Jennings our WR and TEs are playing mediocre at best. Our safeties and CBs playing awful. Maybe Sutton can juice them back up.

So basically.... he said: "It isn't my fault".

This team is the product of his 4 year "brick by brick" building "process". This is the 3rd straight year UT has had higher than average injuries. That isn't "bad luck". That is something wrong with the way the players are being developed, the schemes they run, the techniques they're taught, or possibly even the "recruiting profile" when it comes to physical make up.

This team is no longer young. They're no longer inexperienced. He's had time to build depth and skill. They have had time to learn his scheme.... and their flat terrible. The players managed to win some poorly played games early on that less experienced teams might have lost. But this team shouldn't be 5-3.... closer to 3-5 or maybe worse.

The sooner the powers that be realize that Jones simply isn't an SEC caliber coach.... the better the program will be in the long run.

I think everyone realizes it. It's just about who cares enough to do anything or spend any money on it.

I recognize the fact that it's easy for me to call for Butch's job because I don't have to spend any money on it.

I think one thing Jones has done is prove the economics of firing a coach that isn't getting it done. Attendance and revenues were falling off with Dooley. Jones made everyone believe that the Vols were on the rise again. Unfortunately, his mouth hyped promises that he doesn't have the coaching skill to produce.

So the economics are pretty simple. Fire Jones and hire someone who can win games... to keep revenues up or keep Jones and watch a disgusted fanbase turn away again.

Winning = $$$$. Promises of better things around the corner will do it until those promises do not come true. The crash following those unfulfilled promises will probably be pretty significant.

Kelly and Kamara have had no issues. Looks like the issue is hurd.

Take this into account. I have been speculating since the UGA game that Hurd is a morale problem for this group. If you recall the captains were selected by their peers for this season. Why would Kamara be selected captain over Hurd? I wondered when it was announced that the team selected the captains. To me this says a lot about the character and how Hurd is perceived by his peers.

Hurd isn't getting drafted. Not after this season.

For him, it will all come down to his 40 and quickness numbers. He has the size, and if he measures out to have the speed and quickness, he will get drafted. If not, he won't.

Is this happening?

We've come out looking like the walking dead at the start of every game, iirc. That is the white elephant in the living room.

It's symptom of a core issue with the head coach. Exactly what that issue is IDK but it's a pattern that's so obvious it's become a joke meme in the college football ranks.

Or it really is an issue with chemistry on the team which a head coach does have to address with tough decisions about players.

This is just my opinion, but looking into Hurd's eyes and facial expressions, he's just going through the motions. It's like he doesn't want to be out there.

I want to love Hurd and manage his Heisman campaign, but it has become apparent that he is not putting out effort and shows no passion. Walks back to huddle, looks like he could care less.

I have no connections. Don't know him or his family. Never been in the locker room with the team. Can't read his mind.

That said, the eye test leads me to find all of the things said in this thread believable. Not saying they're true, just that the appearance makes it certainly plausible.

CBJ's performance is unacceptable. He has no idea how to lead a team offensively. Players now see that and will no longer be led down the wrong path. The team quit on him and that is on the coaches not the players!!!

How about this? The coaching is a morale problem for the players!

I expect extreme coaching changes, also personnel changes. More Kelly, more young guys getting reps, possibly Dormady. I don't think he burns JG's redshirt. If Butch wants to be here he will hire an OC that will run a similar offense but will change it up. Also a QB coach. If he doesn't want to be here we see minimal changes and next year will be his last year

A real WR coach too. I have never seen any development in our WR's. Only one who has shown growth or any type of fire is Jennings, and honestly, I think that's just raw talent. We have elite talent at WR and you can't tell at all. Yes, I know they need a qb to throw them a ball, but there's like ZERO separation. We have no slant routes or any type of just quick pass that's not a lateral pass to a screen.

Where are our BOWL teams?! Where is that passion? Past two bowl games have been so much fun to watch. The players look like they're having a blast. Something needs to change in that locker room and I don't think it's the man in charge. I'm a Butch supporter, at least still for the time being. I honestly don't think we're elite yet. I didn't think we were during preseason either. I do think we're in a good place and it is because of CBJ.

How quickly so many people have forgotten recent history...Fulmer's last year: losing season, no bowl game. Kiffin: bowl loss. Dooley: 3 losing seasons and 1 bowl loss. Coach Butch Jones has won two bowl games and potentially has this team of the fringe of a ten win season and a third consecutive bowl appearance/win. UT hasn't had a ten win season since Erik Ainge in 2008. Eight year drought.

Changes need to be made. Players and coaches. If Hurd is a locker room cancer, then there's no place for him. I hope he and CBJ can come to an agreement and work things out, but if not, then he needs to transfer. No ill will. Thank you for two solid seasons with the team.
