Umass message board's take on us.

We just need to feed the ball to Stokes and Maymon all night. They don't have anyone near as strong as them. They have some length but nobody like our two bruisers. Plus, we can kick it back to Jordy and Josh to hit some threes and see if they're feeling it. Maybe Barton can chip in with 3 3s and end up with 13 points.

... only thing I am worried about is depth perception from a Gym to an Arena.

I too wonder about that. That and UMASS has not had the late night travel time.

Does anyone know if they've played any games there?

They -may be- more relaxed about the atmosphere and somewhat more rested by game time.

So what? A Tougher Breed is going to walk in there an whoop dat UMASS azz!

I agree but we have to be more creative in how we feed them the ball. This throwing and dribbling the ball around the arc from side to side with Maymon on one side and Stokes on the other posting up is rec league level offense. It's too predictable and easier to defend and double. They have to use more screens and get the ball with better spacing.

They believe they've got their own big boy on the bench who could in about 6 minutes with intentional fouls take Stokes & Maymon off their game, that and driving early and hard right at em to get S&M (heh-heh! ... just made THAT connection!) benched early with foul trouble. Bruise em up & foul em out. That's one of the posters on their site's plan.

Not being argumentative, but if it's so "elementary" why was a coach as widely praised on here as Fran was, unable to stop it?

Sounds like a turrible plan! Lol.
But inVoluntary is right, we have to come up with new ways to get down low, throw in some new wrinkles. And give Moore some MOORE minutes. He has a little spark plug to him, just don't get to fancy, protect the ball and take what they give you.

Neither team is remotely good enough to overlook the other.

Exactly this. It's dumb of them to overlook us, but we have plenty of our own already looking forward to the potential Duke game as well. There's still a lot of basketball to be played before that matters, and neither team is good enough to take that lightly and have an off night.

They are completely over looking us.. A thread on their board is "how bad do we beat umass".... They are going to be QUITE surprised when game time
Comes around.. Most seem very ill informed about everything college basketball

Reply: They're pretty cocky for a team who finished 4th in a 3 bid league, behind the same Georgia team who went 0-3 in Charleston. It must be their sparkling 4-7 road record which gives them confidence

Reply #2: Frankly, they're only marginally more cocky then some here are defeatist. This is NOT a good Tennessee team. They beat weak teams big. They lose to good teams. If UMass loses it will be because UMass lost (and we've see a fair amonut of this this year) not because UT is any good. They are not.

I'll just drop this off right here......

More quotes from umass board.

Tennessee big guys are fat and slow. We can put the foul machine on them.

Stokes will give us trouble inside. No doubt. But UMass has legs and a something to prove and senior leadership. We try to run and beat the big slobs down the court. Extend the press and wear them down. UMass 77, Tennessee 72.

Before watching either teams I wanted Iowa but after watching both play so far, I think Tennessee is a better match up

We are so much better than either of these teams. I really hope we come to play Friday.

Wide open looks and clear drives to the basket. Iowa is not a good defensive team.

gonna be a big test for CCM, and the Vols. I like the leadership of Maymon on this team. Liked the way he was already getting the guys refocused right after the win over Iowa in the locker room. I guess we'll see. Isn't this basically the same team that we beat by 15 last year? Not saying that we are going to win, but we certainly ought to compete!

Gotta be honest I kinda thought the same thing about whoever has been starting the "so how bad are the vols gonna beat'em" threads. We are playing good but to assume a win is retarded let alone wondering how bad we blow them out.

Hey now... That was my thread! Nothing wrong with a little vol optimism when starting a thread. Given the depression for some over the new Barn coach, i thought this place needed a little confidence boost. Plus as I stated, it worked for the Iowa game so I'm going to keep it up!

I can't help but think this is typical VN. Hype up the game, declare it an easy W, just to lose to a better seeded team and proceed to freak out about how bad we suck.

Hope the guys come out focused,
GBO!
What makes you think we'll see more 1-3-1, BTO? Gosh, I wish Cuonzo would just have some confidence in running it for a longer period.

They did for the most part stop it. This team, unless it's hitting threes and/or scoring on transition, struggles in the half court. Has all year. Has since Martin's been coach. Defense prevailed against Iowa and we wore them down.

You are spot on. If we don't hit jump shots, we are in trouble! Don't forget how we started against Iowa. Cannot afford a similar start today!

Sorry boys.
I'm watching the team I expected in November.
if Umass wants this game their bigs will have to play the game of their careers.
My boys are focused. and Barton's due a break out.
I'm finally a believer.

No offence intended, I just meant that I could see how that might have came across a little cocky, considering our loss column this yr.

Your right though, absolutely nothing wrong with a little confidence and it is refreshing to see something other than the regular belly aching. I still cant enter your threads tho for fear of bad luck. :)
