UM site on our game

They'll probably bait us into taking low-percentage 3-pointers like mercer was doing

Exactly how was Mercer baiting us?

I believe UT jacked the 3's from their own stupidity. McRae and Barton appear to believe they are going to make every 3 and blow the game open. Hope they realize by Friday that they are not Lofton. The only 3's should come from a wide open kick out of the post.

Our inconsistent play in the beginning was caused by lack of effort on D, and poor shot selection. With these problems appearing to be behind us...

I still think our shot selection is poor. With the obvious post advantage we had yesterday we still took 22 (same number as Mercer) 3's and only made 6. Barton did fine at 44%, but Richardson at 33% on 6 attempts and especially McRae at 0% on 6 attempts is not intelligent shot selection. McRae and Richardson appear to be able to slash into the lane for a 10'-15' jumper at will. McRae was 4-6 67% on non 3's and Richardson was 7 for 7 100% on non 3's.

As much love as CCM is getting right now, I still don't understand why he's allowing this to happen. Take a short jumper and if you don't make it your bigs have a great chance for the offensive rebound since the ball typically doesn't bounce as far from the rim on those shots and the defense would have rotated to help stop the penetration which will further compromise their ability to block out?

McRae hasn't really heated up yet. If he puts it together during the break, our offense could get rolling even more.

Maybe. Jordan should be able to pick up a little bit if Josh may cool off. Frankly, I don't expect Josh to cool off one bit. It just doesn't seem to fit his personality. Also, Jordan has not played badly, though. 20, 21, and 14 cannot be considered a bad run. But he hasn't really been "that guy" yet, and I hope he will be ready when we need him vs. UM.

Mercer made it a point to pack that 2-3 zone into the paint and let us shoot 3's, which we obliged on several occasions, many of which were still early in the shot clock.

That is technically baiting us into shooting 3s. The formula for beating us isn't difficult. Play us even on the boards, and force us to shoot outside shots. Executing Executingthe formula is tricky, but Mercer did the right thing to let us shoot ourselves out of the game. They just couldn't get a rebound to save their life which led to numerous second chance points for us.

On their forum some of their posters actually were pretty knowledgeable about our team. Said we were really hot right now with Richardson taking it to the next level. But they predicted that after a week off and multiple practices, we would likely cool off and they should win comfortably. I am a little worried about the game not being until Friday because the way we are playing now - Id like for this game to be Tuesday night.

Trust me, these boys need a rest. If we lose I refuse to believe it's because we're rested.:peace2:

One of the first comments on that article asked:

Thomas, do you think Stokes/Maymon will be tougher to deal with than Ridley/Holmes was?

Answer:

You know, it's almost uncanny how similar the two teams are right now. Having said that, I was not a huge fan of Texas' team and thought they had some major flaws. Tennessee is a better shooting team than Texas, in my opinion. Having said that, it's not like Tennessee has guys like Stauskas either. But to answer your question, I think Stokes/Maymon is the harder duo just because you have to pay more attention to the other guys too. At the end of the day, I think both groups are pretty close.

My response...they don't have a friggin' clue what's about to hit them.

Is the Colts stadium an arena where it could affect depth perception on shooing the 3? If it is then that could benefit us.

It's an odd arena for FB much less BB. Has a huge glass window at each end. It'll be odd for both teams shooting I would think, so if Michigan is a better 3-point shooting team, that should be to our advantage.

I think these guys have come too far to let down now. If we get beat I don't think it'll be for lack of effort or defense, we will just have been outplayed a little bit.

I want it to be a great game.

It would be great if we blew them out of the water, but I really don't see that happening. I predict a 4-6 point game either way......hope we win, but can't really call a winner in this one. Michigan is a good team.

I do think the break benefits us more than them though. We have 3 games in 5 days to recover from. I thought I noticed toward the end of the Mercer game that even though we were blowing them out, our players were getting tired. The recoup time will hopefully do our boys a lot of good.

No. He's been working within the flow of the offense. As long as he's not jacking shots he's fine. He's been pretty efficient

Yeah, we need more of this and less of the McRae we saw for a good portion of the year. This team has plenty of options if they run the offense effectively.

I understand this sentiment to some degree...however, it isn't like we are shooting lights out right now. We are winning with suffocating defense and dominant rebounding. Hot shooting can cool off...a player who catches on fire can suddenly go cold. But defense and rebounding are about hunger...heart...desire...effort. I doubt those things are going to go away over the course of the week. Heck, the bench got more excited about causing shot clock violations than they did about dunks.

I think we will play very well and stay in the rest of our games because of defense and rebounding. What will cost us a game at some point (assuming we don't win the title) is getting away from the late season offensive philosophy of playing inside out on offense, having Stokes and or Maymon getting into foul trouble or just flat out going cold on offense. Which are all distinct possibilities. But I don't think the 5 day delay will hurt us...actually might help our guys to get some rest.

Good info guys. Wonder if Martin tries to put together some specific defensive package for Michigan or if he focuses practice this week on just the fundementals.

You my friend understand BB, and more importantly how this particular UT team must play to have success. :hi:
