There are several Ukrainian college players in the United States. As they face the normal pressure of being Division I athletes, their country has been invaded by Russia. This CBS article illustrates the agony they are going through as their families try to stay safe and, in many cases, fight back against their invaders:

I realize UT fans are excited about the Vols this season, but I think we need to recognize these young men whose families have been placed in great danger from bullets, bombs, and missiles.
I stand with Ukraine!!

Well their president has declared every male 18-60 is now in the army so they better be getting their plane tickets

As a display of solidarity, I think it would be nice of Vol fans to wear blue and yellow instead of orange and white on Saturday.
I have relatives in Russia and friends in Ukraine, so the invasion hits close to home for me.
Also, it might get UT some positive media attention.

If we checkerboard with yellow and blue, that would gather international attention.

Uros should be asked first?

Just because it’s a team sport. He may even support the Ukrainian cause.
To push it further, it’s no secret we recruit Europe. A gesture like this might be one of those things that isn’t forgotten. An opportunity for fans to impact recruiting in a positive way for years if not decades to come.

Are you serious? You think they should hang out in the safety of America playing basketball instead of going home to help defend their families and country? If the roles were reversed I’d be on the first plane back but maybe I’m an outlier here.

Supporting Ukraine to get some sort of recruiting edge in Europe is not only incredibly stupid but also incredibly insensitive to the situation over there.

Comments like these remind me how privileged and clueless so many in this country are.

Please point to where I said I support Ukraine because of a recruiting advantage in basketball. Otherwise, continue posturing on your soapbox.

Just to see what you think. What if it was your son in law who had 2 kids with your daughter and lived in the US. Still feel the same way?

Disingenuous much… Not cherry picked at all, clearly not a statement why I support Ukraine. It is however a statement about support might be mutually beneficial. But since I got “called out”, let me make it clear for you. I support Ukraine because I have family there. Family that is trying to get out, and family too proud to leave. The attachment is a personal text message from last Thursday. “Go and read it’.

Yes I would. That’s his family and homeland under attack. Every able bodied Ukrainian should be armed and fighting back. Would feel the same if it was America being invaded. Again, I’m probably an outlier on this and respect that others may not agree

It’s not a joke. All Ukrainians around the world should return to defend their families and homeland. Americans should do the same if we’re ever invaded. This is my opinion but I respect that you may not agree.

This is not accurate. They are banned from leaving the country, there is no requirement that they return. As of now the Ukranian military is not only not drafting civilians, but they are also refusing voluntary enrollment from those who have not served before. It may not even possible to travel into Ukraine right now.
