Obama and Putin had an hour long phone call today. Think they were talking about their wives and what lawnmower they prefer?

Oh, so I'm not a complete ingenue?

Wait, wait, those guys were just playing with me, weren't they?

During the 2014 Crimean crisis, the U.S. Air Force deployed six F-15 C Eagle fighter jets to the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai. These aircraft will augment the present mission comprising four U.S. F-15 C Eagle aircraft. The U.S. heightened it NATO presence to increase the strength of the Baltic Air Policing mission. Another two U.S. KC-135 aerial refuelling aircraft brought aircraft service personnel[8]

Per wiki also here is a little info on the BAP;

Actually I do believe we increased our number of fighters there at their request.

Correct. The F-16 thing in Poland was what got me curious. I'd heard (you hear a lot of things in the military) we were trying to set up some form of forward base there some years ago, but didn't know it went through until now.

I'm not completely sure who the joke was lost on here. You or me?

You.

Put me in a cell and waterboard me in Gitmo? Ha ha, Grand Vol's getting waterboarded for giving out sensitive info that was found in open sources?

ha?

Added bonus. Fox is pretty spot on with the actual news broadcasts. The commentary programs and talk shows are obviously pro-conservative. But the basic reporting is pretty good and about what you would get with any other news service.

Of the TV networks coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombing, Fox was by far superior to the other networks. CNN was a disaster . I usually consider CNN the best 'news" network but credit should be given where credit is due. Fox actual news coverage has improved drastically. I consider their nighttime lineup on par with MSNBC, propaganda to appease the bases.

Obama - Look Vlad, this is the 21st century. Modern leaders recognize we are all connected on this great big blue marble. Quit acting out and behave like a modern person. Grabbing territory and exercising power is so 19th century

Putin - sure thing Barry, my bad

Another translation:

Putin: Look, Obama, I have a small wiener, so I need to prove something to the world.

Obama: Why, Vlad, I never could have guessed.

I'm sure the NATO membership has great value to those countries that lived under the yoke of the USSR for decades.

I'm asking what value they added to NATO?

Albania
Croatia
Slovenia
Slovakia
Romania
Lithuania
Latvia
Estonia
Bulgaria

I'd have a hard time pinpointing all of them on a map.

The above question is relevant because one of Russia's points of contention is the eastward expansion of NATO.

And your answer lies in your question.

The listed countries were admitted to NATO on the chance that a resurgent Russia ever had thoughts of expanding once again. Little foresight going on there huh?

And this chaps at the Russians because they are limited in westward expansion because if they pulled what they did in the Crimea in a NATO country, Article 5 of the NATO Charter is invoked and they are at war.

As to what those countries add? Nothing really.

what they add to NATO is strength in territory/numbers against non-NATO (Russia/China).

I imagine that the philosophy is that the collective serves as a deterrent.

Corporate welfare cost tax payers far more than programs that help the working poor. Repeating the tired old repub wedge issues is no longer effective.

Corporate welfare regarding Republicans/Democrats.....I don't see the difference.

As far as social security goes......I'll make the govt a deal. They quit withdrawing social security from my check and let me keep my money, and I'll pass on taking social security later in life.

But how would social security function then if you gave me that option???
