Ukraine Protests

No way this battle group passes through the straits to the Black Sea. That would be almost be an act of war. We maintain a carrier strike force in the Med 24x7. This group has been clearly been directed to the Aegean to project some power but it is not out of its normal operational area. Battle groups are directed like this all of the time to show power and influence events. It is just not commonly known or mentioned in media. The Black and Eastern Europe is well within reach from the Aegean.

Oh, I know. Like I said, significant raise of the stakes.

Why on earth would I be a Putin supporter?

Because I've critiqued Obama's FP that makes me a Putin fan?

You said my joke concerning Putin's idiocy was getting old, unless I misread your post.

Anyhow, I made another joke concerning your support of Putin.

I meant the joke where you I assume are mocking some posters by saying Obama is a sissy.

It looked today like their market rebounded after the sell off. Didn't see where it closed.

Putin could help Russia's economic situation in a very short time by cracking down on the bribe system that is required to do business and by working to increase transparency in business arrangements.

As it is now, foreign investment is hard to come by, and there is no trust in the financial system. They have a hard time keeping Russian dollars invested there.

The fact is Russia is a huge market with an appetite for a lot of western goods, but it's hard justifying the risk of doing business there.

"You just don't, in the Twenty-First Century, behave in Nineteenth Century fashion by invading another country on a completely trumped-up pretext."---John Lurch Kerry

John Kerry back in 1994, called for the US to invade Haiti and reinstall its America-hating communist dictator, Jean-Bertrande Aristide.

Kerry flip flopped again.

You forgot Iraq.

I have no damn clue, but apparently some on here are closet Putin voters. At least Rasputin has had the courage to admit it.

Given the alternatives... I would settle for Putin over anything the US has been offered over the last 20 years.

Most Americans would probably find themselves agreeing more with Putin than with Obama or Bush II.

I understand why we have difficulty in wielding influence but your question was would Russia have ANY influence on how we handled a situation in Mexico - I was showing why the analogy has some problems and given equivalence how our relationship with Russia could dictate HOW we handled the situation; not whether or not we did anything.

It wasn't intended to be a detailed analogy. I could have more simply said that you're much more concerned with what's happening in your neighbor's backyard than you are about a yard two miles away.

And so we see Putin risking soldiers, where the U.S./NATO will send none. Putin offers $15 billion, and we offer $1 billion. The stakes are much bigger for Russia. And consequently it's much more difficult to dissuade its conduct.

I know you would, Rasputin. You didn't have to reiterate.

I would trade Obama for Putin in a New York minute. Vlad is much more believable than Obama or his sycophants.

Well, I'll never take another post of yours seriously, not that you care.

So sorry you've been so oppressed these last few years. But Vlad is definitely your man. As I said in the early days of this thread, contemporary Russia (no matter how ****ty it actually is) is a faux conservative dreamland.

What's the difference in Putin and Obama?

One's a power hungry, disillusion, ego maniac that wants to completely control of the country.

The other is the President of Russia.

I'll just mark you as another person on the VolNation board who is in the Obama camp.

It's getting to be more free in Russia than in the USA.

Mandatory registration over there plus proof of why you want to own.

Of course, a couple of hundred bucks to the local military commander probably would get you something nice out of a government arsenal, so there is that.
