why is it a recurring theme w/ Ras that nations are suddenly going to go independent and remove themselves from the global economy? how is the world filled with business deals in Yen, Rubbles, Dollars, Pounds, Reichmarks, Franks etc all, going to be any better?

I never stated that other countries are going to just go independent or remove themselves from the global economy. I've maintained that the USD will lose it's world reserve status and will be replaced by another currency or a basket of currencies. Trade and commerce will still continue among nations, they will just have fewer (if any) reason to keep a large amount of USD in their foreign reserves.

And America will do the same thing with places like Bangladesh, Mexico, etc.

Unfortunately, you may be correct. I am not sure the group of leaders we have right now understand the implications of exporting our manufacturing.

But there is a flip side to this. If the USD loses enough value, you may see manufacturing return to the US because our currency would be weaker. Of course, that means that we would have become the Mexico or China of the world at that point, however.

Domestically, costs will be close to level. Meaning, the good will be manufactured in China and sold in China. There is no currency advantage in regards to domestically made and sold products. The currency implications come once you start talking about markets outside of China.

right, and when these companies start looking at their global profits they GTFO of expensive China. unless you think the companies don't care about the rest of the world any more.

and replace every use of China in there with US and it is just as true, and look at where we are.

Neither of which spells disaster for the US economy.

In the long term, you may be right. But in the short term, as the currency corrects itself, imports into America will decrease and you will also see redirected output in America going overseas because producers in the US would rather be paid in stronger foreign currencies than the weaker domestic currency. The combination of higher import costs and more products being exported will lead to shortages here in the states and runaway inflation.

So you think all 1 billion+ will become middle class or higher? I never see China allowing a discontinuance of a lower class labor force. Whether from internal or external motivations.

Did I say that?

Or, could I be suggesting that a Chinese middle class in a nation of 1 billion people will far eclipse the number of American middle class citizens in a nation of 300 million?

China has issues too, you know.

China signals 'new normal' with higher spending, lower growth target | Reuters

China plans to run its biggest budget deficit in 2015 since the global financial crisis, stepping up spending as Premier Li Keqiang signaled that the lowest rate of growth in a quarter of a century is the "new normal" for the world's No.2 economy.
. . .
China's economy grew 7.4 percent last year, robust by global standards but still the slowest in 24 years.

Countries would kill right now to have positive GDP growth, and this is your proof that China is on the decline?

I didn't say it is in decline. Pointing out the slowest growth in 24 years.

And many of the manufacturing jobs that were going to China are now going to other Asian countries because they have even cheaper labor.

Possibly so. But even still, you won't see China make the same mistake the US did by completely outsourcing their manufacturing at the expense of their domestic market and middle class.

And we've overtaken the god thread. Nice work everyone!!

Everyone go and pour themselves a bit of their favorite beverage.

But we can't rest on our laurels for too long. Like an invading army in Russia, we've got to keep moving.

When you consider how few of us actually post regularly in this thread, it really is goshdarn impressive. This is what happens when people work together in a concerted effort.

I'm so goshdarn proud of you all.

You phrase that as if it was a national policy decision.

"Hey everyone, let's ship all our plants overseas!"

"That's a great idea!"

Now, I do agree with you there. That was a dumb move on our part. Fortunately, I hear some manufacturing is returning to the US now. We'll see how it goes.

The people that made those decisions have no loyalty to the US, even though they have huge influence in this country.

What does eclipsing have to do with the lower class, lower skill labor pool of China?

I credit a TechCamp mentality of engaging in subversive discussions to undermine authority.

Now go take your Chinese conversation to another thread! You're pulling a Russia and distracting us from the topic at hand!

:)

Like I said...hard to have a martyr and create a movement to foster regime change within a country that Putin controls the media. RT and the Gang have done a masterful job making sure Nemtsov is the dirty, sleazy old man that was a virtual unknown in politics. Just waiting for the Jewish comments. Those might be saved if the public does display some lingering sympathy.
