I also love how you have Afghanistan's president who was elected in a democratic runoff election in September of this year as a dictator. I think you need to find better sources. Just saying.

Biggest producer of cacao globally as well. Certainly not the monetary value of some of the others mentioned, but folks love it.

Lol, I think you just made their point for them. Lybia has a lot of oil, Qaddafi wasn't bowing to US interests so he had to be killed. There are horrible tyrants in the countries with diamond mines, but Debeers is getting rich so the tyrants stay. After a quick look at the uranium and platinum mining companies, it doesn't look like there are any Africans getting rich off of their resources either. Well, except for the tyrants who get kickbacks from the mining companies.

I think he was mostly referring to sub-Saharan Africa in his other post. At least that's the construct of Africa I had in mind when responding.

Oil in the north, diamonds in the south. Talking South Africa which produces about a quarter of the world's diamonds. and when i say produce i mean mine.

Diamonds make a few people a lot of money, but I don't know that they're "strategically important" though.

lasers, don't you watch James Bond?

and a lot of the 'waste' diamonds go to industrial tooling, that's a big enough industry that they are producing artificial diamonds for those purposes, similar to the synthetic oils often substituted.
