Ukraine Protests

Just read that article you mentioned. I'm surprised when he said that Russian intelligence activities against the West are at, or greater levels, than during the Cold War.

You're surprised? How do you think we got the now infamous "f*** the EU" audio from Victoria Nuland or the conversation between the Estonian foreign minister and the EU's Cathy Ashton about the Ukrainian coalition firing on other Ukrainians instead of Viktor Yanukovych supporters at Maidan?

I'm surprised the Russians can afford it. Than again, in a dictatorship state security is all important.

You know, after hearing about this Special War (akin to what Illarianov calls the Kremlin's "Fourth World War"), all the Snowden **** that just won't quit, all the nonsense with compromising essential CIA and national security agents around the globe, the absurd Cuban debacle that was discovered a few weeks ago, and on and on and on, I've been thinking for a little while now that there may very well be a Russian agent or agents at a high-level in our national security apparatus.

Some see the man as a hero, and if motivated by good intentions to do what he did, then I can't necessarily argue with them. But I've always been a bit skeptical of Snowden. He has Russian operative written all over him. Just my opinion.

If this is indeed the case, I hope someone is trying to do something about it, and quick.

A whistleblower that exposes NSA violations of our 4th (and I would argue 3rd) Amendment rights is somehow a Russian spy?

Read more about the situation. Many of Snowden's handlers are notorious anti-Americans, not patriots seeking to better the country. And the fact that he will most likely permanently reside in Russia is kind of interesting. Even you can see the irony present in that. It's just a guess, but an educated one at that, but I would imagine the Kremlin spies on its own people just as much, if not more, than the US. Unlike in the US, however, you won't find any Edward Snowdens over there. Well, actually, yes, you will, and his name is Edward Snowden, but you get my point.

Whether he was an actual Russian agent at the time or not, I think one thing for certain: he'll never lack for money now.

Says the guy who still refuses to believe a single word of the MH 17 Russian audio exchange.

I think we just crossed the Rubicon ladies and gentlemen.

If you follow Snowdens leaks closely it's easy to see he's not doing this out of the goodness of his heart. Half the stuff he's released adds nothing to the debate on domestic surveillance.

No surprise, Russia has been invading Ukraine for months now.

As I said earlier in the thread, this will all go as far as Putin wants (and is willing) to go. This crisis begins and ends with him. And, quite frankly, I think it's been that way since at least last November/December.

I still have no clue what his end goal is.

President of Ukraine and Prime Minister of Great Britain discussed international efforts on the settlement of the conflict in the Donbas - Official web-site of President of Ukraine

The parties coordinated their actions on the response to the information regarding the entry of Russian military machines to the territory of Ukraine that has been clearly witnessed by international journalists, particularly of "Guardian" newspaper. The President informed that the given information was trustworthy and confirmed because the majority of that machines had been eliminated by the Ukrainian artillery at night.

I still have no clue what his end goal is.

Best case intentions:
1. Destabilize Ukraine so that it can never really be a part of the EU and the West; can never really leave Russia's sphere.

2. Ensure the federalization/decentralization of eastern Ukraine to aid Russian speakers.

3. Improve his ratings with the Russian people and the anti-Atlanticist world.

Worst case intentions:

1. Do all of the above; and,

2. Further (if not completely) divide NATO and the EU.

3. Either create a separate state in eastern Ukraine with a pro-Russian govt., or (the more likely scenario) annex it just like Crimea.

Russia has the gall to warn the Ukraine not to derail the "humanitarian" convoy when it was the Kremlin who has violated their sovereignty and rolled armored vehicles into the country.

CNN finally taking a break from the Ferguson mess to report on the direct confrontation between Ukrainian and Russian forces. Lavrov claims he knows nothing about it and such a military convoy would not have been authorized by the Kremlin. Yeah right, bud!

20Committee says that typical Russian strategy is to go to war on Fridays after European markets close. What time they do close, I don't know.

Putin has to maintain the complete falsehood, even Ras shouldn't disagree with this mow, to keep his moral high ground internally to Russia. I am sure there is a story of the aid convoy getting shot up and that is why the military rolled in and got shot up too. Basic escalation to what could be a war, just the time frame to the real world doesn't line up to what Putin is going to say to 'his' people

We've done some double-dealing before; for instance, with the Iraq-Iran War.

But this is some sort of obfuscation that I'm not sure we've witnessed before, at least on this large a stage. The Kremlin calls for de-escalation, yet keeps trying its best to escalate. The Kremlin calls for a seize fire to help civilians and get humanitarian aid, yet keeps sending arms, troops, and armament across the border. The Kremlin blames the war on the West and Kiev, and yet the only reason why it's even occurring is because of Moscow.

Almost makes your head hurt.

If it's like ours, which closes at 4:30 PM (I think), then most major European markets would have closed about an hour-half to thirty minutes ago.

Reporters were allowed to look at the convoy and most trucks were empty, where is the damn aid? Also today is Polish Armed Force Day and the Poles had one of their biggest military parades in Warsaw, with most pundits agreeing that it was likely a show of force against Moscow. This is what the Russian embassy in Warsaw got see this morning;
