I know they were still doing it in Tennessee in the late 70s. I think I remember Iowa being the last state where the girls still played 6 on 6 about 10 years ago.
Girl's HS basketball in a lot of states used to be a 6 on 6 games where it was 3 on 3 on each end of the court with each team having 3 permanent defenders and 3 permanent offensive players that couldn't cross halfcourt.
I can barely remember watching a game played like that. While it seems like something that had to have happened back in the 30s or 40s, it actually wasn't that long ago.
The only reason I know about 6 on 6 is that I have an Aunt that held Tennessee high school scoring records in 6 on 6. I can remember seeing her play when I was about 6 or 7.
