Bear Bryant did the sane thing before games. Then his defense would shut out the opposing squad

Very true, Nobody could do a gloom and doom like the ole Bear and yet his team would show up and dominate the other team and he would act like it was the greatest victory in Alabama football history....Sly old fox he was...I don't think in his years there he predicted Alabama to win more than 5 or 6 games a season :eek:lol:

He's just being honest. Actually, I think Spurrier used to talk like this. Every year he would talk like the gators didn't have anything, while everybody else was so good. While, at the same time, they were beating up on everybody.

My thoughts exactly...except, they didn't just beat them, that defense ate them up.

:)

True, but Callahan was/is an idiot. How can a coach not change the audibles.

IMO, CMK is feeding their ego and has a plan in place to grind them down.

No. Spurrier's gamesmanship though enabled him to get inside the head's of Fulmer, UT's coaches, and most of UT's players.

He is self-deprecating at times... but humble or modest aren't him.

I think this is fine. He's right (first of all), so it's good that he'll recognize that it will take some scheming on his part to win this battle.

“I’ve never seen an offense this good, and I’ve seen some pretty good ones,” he said. “The Oakland Raiders that we played in the Super Bowl had the No. 1 offense in the NFL and set the record for most yards ever. All due respect, they weren’t this good. These guys are unbelievable.”

Coordinators always talk up the opposing team in the next game. They don't want to provide the opposing team bulletin board material. Though in this game, there is already plenty.

i dont know what to think of that

Sounds like the old ploy Joe Paterno always used in the 60's and 70's! Basically trying to get the opposition into believing they couldn't be beaten. . .The Nits feasted on beating teams that looked much much better on paper. They had a shirt done years ago which had a lineup of Heisman Quarterbacks that succumed to the Lions.

Will this be one of those games??? :naughty:

Note: I believe the number one thing our Vols need to
do is to be able to run the ball effectively. Not
necessarily "down their throats" because that is
not going to happen. We just need to keep their
"D" honest so Crompton at least has a fight'n
chance to complete some passes downfield.

There can't be any way to interpret that other than as either an outright joke or just extreme exaggeration in an attempt to get in the gators' heads.

At least he is honest. Undeniably the gators are a great team.

what would you want him to say? this is perfect Bear Bryant pre-game talk. I love the fact that he is like, "The Gators are the perfect football team!" I love it...and I hope the Gators read it as well...

Sometimes the way to offset a talent discrepancy is to try to mess with the minds of the opposition. Build them up.

Monte may be looking for an edge here - somehow, someway.

Its mostly coach speak. Plus Monte and UM are good friends. And the offense is in fact good.

while he didn't have to go out of his way to be complimentary.....

someone else hit the nail on the head.

this is just coach speak. he's telling the guys in the lockerroom something different i'm sure.

Just more proof that CMK, our new DC, is a wily old coot (and I say that with the utmost respect, I am an ENORMOUS Monte Kiffin fan). I think we hold UF under 30. Just my $.02.

You mean just the offense, or are you including special teams and defensive scores, as well?

I think at any rate that Florida can score more than that offensively. With UT's offensive woes, your defense is going to spend most of the game on the field and by the end should be fairly tuckered out.

Just think that the Bucs beat the Raiders in the Super Bowl the year he is describing....Go Monte...Go Vols.....

I am a huge Bucs fan, so I know this for a fact, Not only did the BUCS win but The defense scored just as many points as the #1 ranked offense in the super bowl. 21pts for Bucs defense, Brooks pick 6, dwight smith 2 picks 6's. Lets Go Vols, maybe Berry, Janzen, Rogan all score!!!!!11
