UGA v UT (UGA grad perspective)

Our issue is they are very good in the 4th on both sides of the ball and now have more players back. They also have an excellent run team, our only benefit is they are more downhill than FL was which with McCullers is our best look. I imagine having watched the FL game they will also try and attack the edges. Unless we get ahead and they are plaging catchup i see us wearing down on D in the fourth and that being our Achilles heel.

I like the breakdown. UGA is definitely in a better place than us right now, and with a definite mental edge. Over the course of these next four games, I want to see Dooley coach his tail off. I have yet to see anything that makes me think he has what it takes, but I think he can potentially earn back my respect with a solid couple of games. An upset at Georgia would be nice, but I will be equally satisfied with 4 quarters of all-out play by our team and a close finish.

Go Vols!

It is still early in the season, Vols. Back in 2007 UGA blew rear the first half of the season (losing to USC, destroyed by the vols, and BARELY escaped a bad vandy team). Then guess what, the lights turned on and UGA played like the best team in the nation (almost making it to the Nat championship!).

I have degrees from UT and UGA... I love both teams and cherish my school days on both "the hill" and "Brumby hill"... d@mn i miss them Brumby butts.

Both schools have their wonders, but UT fans are by far crazier. Not even a question... Which leads "us" to over react... over react, say, when we have the number 1 statistical offense in the SEC and are 17 minutes away from being 4-0.

Statistically, UT has played a more difficult schedule AND has better statistics in the most categories. The Dawgs are, however, winning in the most important category and are coming off of a slashing of Vandy... but since when does beating a 1-4 vandy team make anyone good?

Here is a completely non biased perspective of the game:

1. This is 2 of the 3 best offenses in the SEC going at it (BAMA is so annoyingly solid).

2. UT and UGA have been good and bad on D. UGA has not played an offense with a pulse yet and has looked awful at times. UT looks great on 90% of a games downs... and then gets gashed for huge plays on broken assignments. Both teams look like they have the potential to put together 4 quarters of good D.

3. UGA has better field goals and punts. UT has better returners in the special teams.

Summary: This game is a lean UGA on paper ONLY because they played a complete game against a pulse-less Vandy. UT has not played a complete game against any team yet.

I have seen so many "UT has to play perfect" to win this game threads... But in reality, like with every tightly contested SEC game, the team who wins the turnover battle will probably win this one.

I know the stakes are high at UT this year. It feels like the future of the program is at stake. But there is way to much over reacting about a team the is exactly where everyone thought it would be: A KILLER passing game, A MUCH IMPROVED running game, and a Defense that plays well at times but struggles adjusting to the new defense (ok maybe didn't expect this many missed assignments, but still!). SO calm down and hope for the lights to come on and missed assignments to go away.

I am going with the vols 31-30 on this one because, to me, it screams upset. Still think the Dawgs will win the east (then get beat by 30 against Bama in the SECCG).

Gonna be one hell of a saturday

So, who will you be rooting for during the game???

Excellent post OP! The use of facts and logic may confuse/anger some of the other posters on VN though.

Man, before last week I was definitely going to be rooting for the Vols because this game isn't about the season... it's about the PROGRAM and its future.

However, it is tough to root against the Dogs with a legit shot to go undefeated into the season.

Ultimately, it will be UT though. this game to me is the "UT Program" over the "UGA Season"

Agree with op except I watched the NCST game and feel UT played 4 quarters. My opinion vs the op is nothing big so keep posting quality material!

Grew up a Vol fan, huh? So much for being non biased. Just giving you a hard time. I enjoyed reading your breakdown, but I would not say it is unbiased. It definitely leans one way more than the other, JMO.

Just leave! It was a good outlook on the game.

I like the points you made. I dont understand the people who say that UT has to play perfect to win. We just need to have a good gameplan going in, be willing to adjust it as necessary to counter act what uga is doing, and have the team fired up to play in a hostile environment. First road game of the year so i'll be excited to see how the team deals with the crowd I hope they feed off of the energy and shut the dawgs up

Haha! My brother is a diehard UT fan and former UT student. His wife graduated from UGA. His daughter just graduated from Bama. Imagine being totally surrounded by the enemy. And females, at that.
