It is still early in the season, Vols. Back in 2007 UGA blew rear the first half of the season (losing to USC, destroyed by the vols, and BARELY escaped a bad vandy team). Then guess what, the lights turned on and UGA played like the best team in the nation (almost making it to the Nat championship!).

I have degrees from UT and UGA... I love both teams and cherish my school days on both "the hill" and "Brumby hill"... d@mn i miss them Brumby butts.

Both schools have their wonders, but UT fans are by far crazier. Not even a question... Which leads "us" to over react... over react, say, when we have the number 1 statistical offense in the SEC and are 17 minutes away from being 4-0.

Statistically, UT has played a more difficult schedule AND has better statistics in the most categories. The Dawgs are, however, winning in the most important category and are coming off of a slashing of Vandy... but since when does beating a 1-4 vandy team make anyone good?

Here is a completely non biased perspective of the game:

1. This is 2 of the 3 best offenses in the SEC going at it (BAMA is so annoyingly solid).

2. UT and UGA have been good and bad on D. UGA has not played an offense with a pulse yet and has looked awful at times. UT looks great on 90% of a games downs... and then gets gashed for huge plays on broken assignments. Both teams look like they have the potential to put together 4 quarters of good D.

3. UGA has better field goals and punts. UT has better returners in the special teams.

Summary: This game is a lean UGA on paper ONLY because they played a complete game against a pulse-less Vandy. UT has not played a complete game against any team yet.

I have seen so many "UT has to play perfect" to win this game threads... But in reality, like with every tightly contested SEC game, the team who wins the turnover battle will probably win this one.

I know the stakes are high at UT this year. It feels like the future of the program is at stake. But there is way to much over reacting about a team the is exactly where everyone thought it would be: A KILLER passing game, A MUCH IMPROVED running game, and a Defense that plays well at times but struggles adjusting to the new defense (ok maybe didn't expect this many missed assignments, but still!). SO calm down and hope for the lights to come on and missed assignments to go away.

I am going with the vols 31-30 on this one because, to me, it screams upset. Still think the Dawgs will win the east (then get beat by 30 against Bama in the SECCG).

Gonna be one hell of a saturday

Good post and I agree...UGA I believe is a little higher ranked than it should be and I believe UT is a little better than people can see.

Now all we have to do is go out and prove it...

Yeah good try...those "friendly" Florida effers came on here and said the same thing. getting our hopes up for a win and then blowing us out. Trying to destroy the fan base. Very clever Dawg but we've seen the ploy before!

Great post! But I think you forgot that we have Chaney as OC. With his play calls and lack of execution on the offense...I just hope we keep it close! Not trying to be negative, but I really don't grasp the concept of some of Chaney's play calling!

Finally, someone with an excellent posts. I agree with everything except the assumption we are crazier than GA fans. My worst experience ever was as a game in Athens. But we have our crazies too.

I have been on this board for 2 years rooting for the Vols. My grandfather, father, and brother are all UT Graduates and have had family i Oakridge for over 120 years. I grew up a Vol fan, man.

You might be right about that. But I think UT's dire condition the last few years has made us crazier than almost all SEC fans

Great summary and some good points. After the disapointment of the UF game, it was easy to lose perspective. What is the take on CDD if we split the next 4 with wins over UGA/MSU and respectable losses to Bama/USCar?

Assuming we win out or only drop another game, it would be hard to not view that as progress whether you like Dooley or not.

If we win 2 that means that we are a team that can play a complete game. So, having the best O in the SEC, some quality wins, and finishing games with a new D Coordinator... yeah, I'd say I am very happy with Dooley if he can split those games. Sets us up for a strong November and New Years Day bowl.

Honestly, the way Alabama is playing, anything within 20 is respectable

Grew up a Vol fan, huh? So much for being non biased. Just giving you a hard time. I enjoyed reading your breakdown, but I would not say it is unbiased. It definitely leans one way more than the other, JMO.

OP make an excellent post and made some very good points.

I've cautioned all Summer not to OVERexpect from this team because we are still rebuilding and don't have SEC type players at every starting position much less on a solid 2 deep roster...YET!

When people OVERexpect it's logical after a tough loss they'll OVERreact like we've seen constantly since the floriDUHHH game.

VN fans are all over the place here BUT I also believe we have LOTS of trolls/posers on here with Vols fans names like are on GVX that are here only to LIE and stir the pot of discontent and OVERexpections.

We ARE getting there but just not as fast as most real Vols fans demand.

VFL...GBO!!!

You know as well as I do that Athens can turn anyone into a Dawg fan. Greatest city in America. I don't think it was a biased breakdown... I just didn't cover a couple things- Like Jarvis Jones.

Ok in that case, maybe it was a little biased.
