UGA president calls for 8 team playoff

I read this article this morning, but couldn't bring myself to post it. Way to come around Mr. Adams...when you think your school got screwed, it's apparently amazing what you'll go to. Wasn't it just last year that all of these guys said "no way" to this system?

These guys always look so completely ridiculous when they come out for a playoff right after they think they got screwed.

Georgia had a good season.

But, any team that loses at home to South Carolina, and by 3 touchdowns to Tennessee, should have no business complaining about the system that determines the national champion.

I agree he looks retarded but I'll take a playoff despite the politics that get it there.....

It did just dawn on me however that the SEC probably is a loser if we get a playoff much like Carson Newman did in Div. 2 this year. An 8 team playoff would likely divide up the competition and require some time of equal representation from conferences...keeping a strong SEC 3rd place team out of the mix while allowing in an even weaker team from another conference. I guess it's better than what we have now however.

In other news, LSU's president writes a letter of support for current BCS system and OSU's president writes a letter requesting the SEC be removed from the BCS.

has become a "beauty contest largely stage-managed by the networks."

how do you expect to be Miss America if you can't even win the Miss Tennessee pageant?

I don't want to disparage Georgia for a fine season, but I really didn't see anything that truly distinguished them this year. The Florida win as quite impressive, but the Tennessee loss was the polar opposite. I think the Sugar Bowl said more about Hawaii than it did about Georgia. At any rate, I don't think an 8 team playoff is worth much at all over the current system. You may as well open it to 16 and get a truly broad field.

Playoof is good. Georgia's QQ'ing because they feel like they got "screwed"...go take a flying leap off of a bridge UGA. You didn't even go to your conference championship game.

There is no feasible way to have an eight-team playoff. If there's any automatic bids for conference champions, there would need to be at least 11 spots available. Of course, that would have its own crazy occurrances.

Thinking retroactively, UT would have been shut out in 2001 while a four-loss LSU team would get in.

I'm stealing that line. I'm sure all these UGA fans that surround me will love it. :birgits_giggle:

ain't that the truth............

The basketball tourneys are probably the most inclusive of any sport and there is always grumbling about the "bubble selections". Point is no system is perfect although the BCS is probably one of the most imperfect.

I guarantee you that if we went to the UGA prez' formula and they came acropper on their own formula, the wailing and gnashing of teeth in Athens would be just as great.

While we are at it...do away with title games for all BCS conferences or make them all play one.

I agree

but as much as I hate to do it I have to give Florida credit because they came out and asked for one after they won it all last year. Normally you only hear it after a screw job.

i still believe that if you don't win your conference you don't deserve a shot at the NC.

All he's doing is making it up to the UGA fans for the way he treated Dooley. He's trying to get back in the good graces of his money.

do a plus one, and make winning your conf. a pre requisite for competing for the national title.

that would have put OSU, OK, LSU and USC in the plus 1 format this year, and would anyone really have an issue with the winner of those 4 as national champs? uh, no.

sorry GA, and anyone else that didn't win your conf. winning the conf. still has to mean something.

More power to them!

LSU lost to Kentucky and Arkansas and wound up national champs. Anything to get a playoff in place...
