Come on now. All the jesters they do at UT after the football games.Taunting the players and fans.
I would have been up in the stands too giving thanks to our 6th player(s) if I played for UT and they drove all the way to support a team that has struggled for nearly a decade at least. :banghead:

In an article in the 02/14/06 edition of the Chattanooga Times Free Press, Mike Hamilton was more or less quoted as saying it (going into the hosts' stands) would not happen again.

It's not like they do it every week.

I'm sure MH doesn't like to see the goal posts torn down at football games either.That's a safety issue as well.
That said, any other team in the SEC I probably would stay quiet on the issue, just not UGA!

The article linked from the Jackson Sun indicates that Hamilton initiated the apology and that this was a spur of the moment occurrence.

I think Hamilton and Pearl both recognize there are negative ramifications and this won't happen again. On the otherhand, I think it was a great gesture on Pearl's part. Better to ask forgiveness than permission.

As a witness to the event, I thought it was great. Most of the UGA fans were exiting like the place was on fire anyway. It was the first time I ever attended a game and the players thanks the fans like that. After reading the article, it probably wasn't the best thing to do, however hind-sight is always 20-20.

There was NOTHING to apologize for!

For those of you PCer's that have a problem with it, why don't you have a problem with it when the football team does it or when the QB leads the Band in Rocky Top on the opposing teams Field?

I saw nothing wrong with it. I thought it was funny that at the end Stegman Coliseum looked more like it was in Knoxville. A friend of mine said the UGA radio broadcasters bragged on the roadies for UT. But they had to make a swipe at this as whether this was a temporary occurrence for UT fans.

Here's why I hate UGA so much.

Several years ago, my huge UT fan cousin (who had just lost his son 6 months prior),and my brother and I went to the UGA game at UT, my treat. You know, bring his spirits up some. We had two tickets but needed three together.Swapped the two and some $ for tickets right in the middle of a sea of the biggest redneck UGA fans in the state. One guy (23), was way out there.He was saying stuff like I wish all UT players would die on a plane, just a bunch of crazy stuff.Of course, that was the game UGA's David Greene beat us late.Travis Stephens ran his butt off.

In closing, what was suppose to be a fun pick me up day was ruined by a UGA redneck.He screamed right behind us all game.Not just the normal stuff, he was a crack head probably! My cousins gone now too, so that drives the hate little harder.

UGA fans are the biggest bandwaggoners in the conferance. Several years ago you couldn't find a Georgia fan anywhere. Now I see idiots everywhere with Georgia crap on their cars. I hate them so much. :banghead:

That is a big generalization you made there. All schools have their bandwagon fans and when your program enjoys success you will undoubtly get a few fans that have no clue as how to act with class and respect. The fact is we all have them not just UGA the reason you see so many is an issue of geography no that we have the most.

When I first moved to Atlanta in 1997 you saw more Tennessee stuff on cars than you did Georgia. It seemed like Georgia fans were few and far between here. Now you see it everywhere now that they are good at something besides women's gymnastics.

Do you think that had anything to do with UT's success during that time? It's not like this is a new trend people love to be part of something special and no matter where you are its going to happen. There will always be the loyal fans and alums around but as soon as you start seing success thats when the flood gates open.


Example: How many UT basketball fans where there last year?

My neighbors lare UGA grads, and they are great to live by, have it no other way.My deal is more of a bad experience which I'm sure goes both ways.I don't really hate UGA fans, in fact I don't get mad at fans, just don't care to be surrounded by bad fans so to speak.

Amen to that. Even if it one of your own fans. I was at our UGA vs UK game this year and this jerk sat behind me and complained for the first two quarters about everything. I finally turned around and ask him for his autograph..he looked at me blankly so I said your Mark Richt right...he says no.. then I say then just shut up andlet the rest of us enjoy the game. So he got up and left. There is always one.

It probably has to do with their success since the 50's.

I've always hated Georgia fans because of so many run ins with violent and rude fans. The first time I was in Athens for a game I was hit with a bottle and was spit on. I've never encountered any of that from Florida fans. (I've never been to a game at Alabama, but I've heard stories about them too).

And I think there are just as many UT basketball fans now as there were the last few years, but there was just nothing to cheer for.

I wasn't saying they where not succesfull before the 90's but during that decade they where very succesfull. Like UGA we are traditional a very succesfull program but in the 90's we stunk and have recently had a good streak. As for your run in with UGA fans I'm sorry about that but trust me the majority are classy and respectfull fans. Everyone has a few bad apples I have heard the same stories about UT, UF, UA, GT, any shcool name here.

You got UF and bammer mixed up. I have been to the swump twice (93 & 97) while a student and it was a miserable game experience. My parents have also been with my brother (who just grad. from there) and they were harrassed to the point of never wanting to go visit him again.

However much I hate bammer, their fans have always been very respectful because they understand how to win. That's the biggest difference b/w the 2.

EDIT: Not kissing up, but I had the best time ever in Athens in 98.

That's what it sounds like when they use the phrase "Players entering the stands". But I don't think Artest signed any autographs when he went in.
