Listing to WNML for insight and they say UGA was calling our snap count. It's illegal and inexcusable for the referees to not realize it with only 25k in the stands. That's how they got so many 5 yarders and were able to speed rush us. I remember Pruitt showing the refs his fingers for the number of times they had done it and forced a penalty. No offsides on them all game either. Did it cost us the game?? Not saying it did, but explains those penalties for sure and some of those free rushers.

I wondered if that was what was happening.

Can someone explain what this is? I played baseball and golf, so I’m not sure what this means or why it’s causing a problem. I understand they’re yelling stuff, but not sure why they’d need a penalty?

When you are in your backswing or starting your downward swing and some one hollers, what usually happens to your effort? Same, when someone calls out a signal or something as your QB and center are trying to start a play that has big 300 pounders coiled like springs waiting for the count? Same results as your golf swing when it is interrupted.

Our offensive checks are super simplified, especially for runs. Even numbers run right, odd left this was called out during the broadcast yesterday and it made for easy shifts for UGA. They didn't do anything wrong

Not trying to defend what UGA was doing if they were calling out snap counts, yes the refs should've gave them a penalty... At the sametime a football team is coached to fire off the ball when the ball is snapped... If you jump before the ball is snapped thats not being disciplined because your jumping according to what you hear, when you are coached to fire off what you see.

Correct, but the tackles often times cannot see the ball being snapped. You could tell it was messing with Wright and Morris

I think the bigger problem here is the familiarity between the coaches. They each know the other very well. This one falls on the coach to implement something different so the other team can't figure it out. I have no doubt that at a minimum Georgia knew when the ball was going to be snapped and was able to get a better jump than even their normal jump. I also think their were some funny business happening base on CJPs sideline conversation with the refs.

Really?

Will the whining ever end?I doubt very seriously they were calling out the count. They were probably just calling their own audibles. With so few fans in the sounds the players, on both side of the ball, they hear so much more ... there is even that much more trash talking because it is so much quieter on the field.

Defense is coached to "fire off" based on what they see... not the offense. The offense would have no initial surge if they "didn't fire off" until they saw the ball snapped. Why even have a snap count if your OL is simply looking at the ball waiting for it to be snapped???

This is a legitimate gripe for me... I don't know if it's a penalty in college, but at the next level in the NFL that is clearly "simulating the snap" which is a defensive penalty... The defensive lineman can not yell out things that mimic the snap, and the ENTIRE defensive line moving while yelling is one of those things that gets solved in the offseason by the rules committee...

Really dirty that UGA pulls that trash, but I wouldn't expect any less from such a garbage university...

I hear what your saying but if thats the case then why would some teams go with a silent count

Refs should have caught that. Oh well, i'm sure the league office will know about it now since they play the league's golden goose this week. Watch them get a couple penalties for it at Bama if they try it.

You're exactly right.

This may be the most moronic post I've ever seen on this forum. First calling out your own defensive audibles is done every play. You don't have false starts on every play. You questioning that it even happened shows that you did not watch the game very closely. You could actually see and hear the linebacker calling out the Snap count. The fourth time he did it you could actually see his whole body move when he yelled. If you can stand it go back and watch.. if it wasn't something that was against the rules Pruitt would not have been wasting his breath. Unfortunately he has learned the difference in coaching as a coordinator for Alabama and as a head coach for Tennessee. his close-up look of resignation said it all . The refs did not care enough. When it gets called against Georgias defense when they play Alabama then you'll understand. These kinds of dirty tricks are not uncommon and usually once a penalty is called they stop. At minimum a warning is given to the players normally a captain to stop or it will be called . That's why Pruitt was trying to get the referees to act and was holding up his fingers. I agree with the poster that said this isn't the reason that Tennessee lost but those two penalties close together killed that drive. one or two plays often makes a difference in a game. It is a game of inches. The refs know the rules it's just a matter of enforcing them correctly. Ask Ark about Aub. The SEC saying that there was not an effort to recover that ball immediately is insane. The linebacker was full speed the entire time after that ball once it hit the ground and he recovered it.
