UFC Thread

Taz, the former wrestler turned podcast guru thinks this fight was rigged to get the belt off Rousey since she was already going on hiatus for a while:

Why are some people not seeing this? This has been done in the wrestling industry for years," said Taz. "A guy or girl is going to take a break or go away, or has an injury that they have to tend to, whatever the reasons are, and they’re a champion – you take the championship off of them. You do not want your champion sitting home or making a movie, ‘Roadhouse 2? or whatever Rousey’s going to do, or whatever Rousey’s going to do, or just needs a personal break, which she’s earned. This girl’s earned it. But you don’t want that person sitting home for five, six, seven months with that championship. IT’S BAD FOR BUSINESS! TAKE THE BELT OFF HER!”

“If you look at the actual K.O. – now, she did get nailed, Rousey, with several shots before the finish of the fight. Nothing that was like ‘oh my god,’ but she got popped a few times. But if you look at the actual knockout, as Rousey, she went for kind of a lazy punch or something – not lazy but she kind of missed – and as she spun to turn around her back was kind of turned to Holm. And as she slowly turned, a high round kick, I believe it was the left foot, or left leg of Holm, catches Rousey, drops Rousey, and then Holm grounds and pounds for three shots – boom, boom, boom. Ref gets in the middle, fight’s over, new champion Holly Holm.”

“I’m telling you right now, that whole series, was the work. And I’m not sure who was in on it and who wasn’t but I know this much: the ref probably wasn’t in on it. Maybe he was I don’t know. Rousey was in on it – and again, this is all my opinion. Holm might not have been in on it.”

Lol Ok Ronda we are going to give you a few months off, all you have to do is get your face busted up by taking a bunch punches, then take a head kick, oh and let her punch you 3 times while you pretend to be knocked out.

Yeah, this is a real sport with real repercussions. He's used to fantasy fighting where story lines and outfits and slogans carry as much weight as the "fighting".

She got her ass beat. Period.

Ronda Rousey I'm Ashamed Of My Face

I thought some fights have looked rigged but this was definitely not one of them. Rousey's gonna take huge hit over this. She doesn't seem invincible anymore. Also, I know people who don't even follow UFC but were happy to see her lose. Pretty pathetic how she comes off so hard and doesn't tap gloves then holds her head down after losing and hides her face. It looked terrible before the 2nd round even started and she took more of a beating after that. I'm sure her entire face is black and blue. But yeah, I don't believe for a second Rousey was okay with losing and getting her face smashed in.

So, if Rousey takes 6 months off to make movies, while Holm trains and gets more MMA experience...what kind of odds will this fight get a year down the road (say Holm beats Cyborg between now and then)?

I missed the end. I recorded the first block + 90 minutes, but they broke the event into 2 blocks apparently.

The first one is prelims, they haven't been listing it as prelims lately but like its the main card. I done the same thing a few cards back, thought the second one was just a repeat. Its on right now fwiw.

Yeah, I usually don't miss that when there are 2 blocks, but in this case there wasn't a lot of prestige to the event, so I didn't imagine it was a 4 hour deal.

This season has been rough. I can't get over the poor use of Le. Uriah has the best striker in the house and puts him against a strong grappler. Le could have beat either of the Europeans that fought on tonight's episode.

This has been my first season of religiously watching TUF, and man, I've been disappointed. The quality of the fighters does not seem to be very good.

Lobov shouldn't even be on the show, as he lost in the initial fight, and he drops his hands so much that he'd be destroyed in the UFC and he's running roughshod over all of these dudes.

Yeah I think everyone pretty much knows that Dana brought fighters back because one was Conor's boy. I know promoters will probably tend to favor the fighters who draw more people. Just don't make it so obvious.

Artem has proven he belongs, IMO.

Can't believe Hall didn't get a 3rd round. I don't get how Saul got the first round. He had 1 good body punch and that's it.

The Europeans are whiny, sore losers. Julian clearly won rounds two and three. In the third Abner did nothing avoid exchanges and try to take the fight to the ground. I think he managed to once, but only for a few seconds. I hope Conor's boy keeps dropping his hands like he has been and gets his head kicked out of the cage.

I'll be surprised if any of these guys become UFC stars, other than maybe Saul Rogers. Some guys might make it as entertaining preliminary card fighters, but never as contenders.

I think Saul and Thanh Le have the most raw talent. Thanh Le needs to be in a gym that harps on Jiu-Jitsu and live there for the next 2-3 years.

This. He can already outstrike a lot of UFC fighters IMO. If he will work on his TDD and submissions, his ceiling is very high.

I agree on Le, though the fact that he's already 30 makes it seem like he's far behind on ground/takedown defense from where he should be. Maybe he's that new to the sport, but his ground game was flat out sad.
