Cal:
Cary Dove was 21, Longshore was 8, Kyle Reed was 5, and Kevin Riley was 6. Again these rankings were from rivals. I always thought that the Elite 11 was for the top 11 QB's in the country.

Yes elite 11 is supposed to be the top 11 qb's in the country. I don't think they are directly related to rivals.

I have no idea who Cary Dove is, i'm assuming he never qualified. The other elite 11 guy is mansion who mack brown wanted real bad. Here's some highlights.

Brock Mansion highlights - Brock Mansion highlights

A PrepStar.com All-America selection ... Rivals.com rated Mansion No. 11 in their "pro-style" quarterback class ... selected to the All-Southwest team by SuperPrep Magazine ... attended the Elite Eleven quarterback camp in 2006 ... as a senior, threw for 2,200 yards and 26 touchdowns ... helped Episcopal finish third in state and was one of eight underclassmen to earn Texas all-state honors after throwing for 1,986 yards, 28 touchdowns and just six interceptions in 2005 ... added 989 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground ... ESPN Insider said, "he is one of the most calm and balanced players we have seen in the pocket ... has very good feet, is always set and presence is natural" ... father was a tight end at Texas Tech ... his three uncles played at Texas, Nebraska and Texas Tech, respectively ... an honor student ... joins tailback Justin Forsett as the other Texas native on the Bears' roster.

Ainge was 11, Schaeffer was 7, Coleman was 10, Crompton was 2, and Stephens was 15. All by Rivals. Those other rankings for the other teams are probably wrong along with what you put for UTK.

None of what I put above was wrong, I just got it from Scout, and you got your info from Rivals.

Take the time to look it up yourself if you think I was wrong.

1) You're acting like Cal is loaded with very elite Qb's.
2) False.

Not counting JUCO's since 2003.

Going by recent Recruiting Classes...

Cal's Quarterbacks
  • Cory Dove, #52 QB in 2003
  • Nate Longshore, #17 QB in 2004
  • Kyle Reed, #6 QB in 2005
  • Kevin Riley, #18 QB in 2006
  • Brock Mansion #28 QB in 2007

Tennessee's Quarterbacks
  • Erik Ainge, #26 QB in 2004
  • Brent Schaeffer, #14 QB in 2004 -- No longer there.
  • Jonathan Crompton, #3 QB in 2005
  • Nick Stephens, #11 QB in 2006
  • BJ Coleman, #16 QB in 2007

Florida's QB's.
  • Chris Leak, #3 QB in 2003 -- No longer there.
  • Justin Midgett, #7 QB in 2003 -- No longer there.
  • Josh Portis, #5 QB in 2005
  • Tim Tebow, #3 QB in 2006
  • Josh Brantley, #7 QB in 2007
  • Cameron Newton, #14 QB in 2007

If you get the median of those QB's...

Both Tennessee and Florida average better Quarterback Classes than Cal.

And both Tennessee and Florida have started Freshman QB's in the recent past.

I'm not saying Cal would start a freshman, but it sounded like you think Cal is loaded, and I'm not sure where you got "Cal has 4 Elite 11 QB's already".
Portis isnt there for UF anymore either.

Droski, why were all those guys stuck behind Ayoob and Levy?

the only one there at the time was reed and he was a true freshman and very raw. Tedford didn't want to burn his redshirt. edit: longshore broke his leg in the first game, so that is why he wasn't available. Longshore was the clear #1 starter. And ayoob was a 5 star recruit and had talent. He just was a major headcase.

I wasn't referring to Longshore. I knew his situation. Last year, however, I thought the depth chart was:

Lonshore
Ayoob
Levy

What about those other guys?

oh last year, my bad. Levy and Ayoob were seniors and Tedford is very loyal to seniors. Neither saw any significant minutes. Ayoob apparently looked good in practice and Levy was the hero of the big game and the bowl game.

what part don't you understand? Dove, never played I don't even know you he was. Reed was a freshman and tedford didn't want to burn his redshirt for the 4 games left in the season (or whenever it became obvious ayoob wasn't going to work out). Riley was a senior in high school and mansion was a junior in high school.

Alright, so give me your projected top 3 Cal QBs next year.

1. Longshore
2. Riley
3. Reed
4. Mansion (redshirt)

edit: and I wouldn't be suprised to see Reed or Riley transfer depending on who is made #2.

So you don't think there's a single freshman QB in the country that could beat out Mansion? I find that pretty hard to believe. Also, what happened to Levy? Was he a JUCO guy like Ayoob or something? It seems like he wasn't at Cal very long.

Actually if you read my post I said I couldn't imagine that one would start in front of longshore, reed, or riley. Mansion himself is a freshman so certainly a freshman qb could start in front of Mansion. Levy came in tedford's first recruiting class. At the time a fairly major recruit, the new jersey player of the year. He was converted to FB his first 2 years. Then back to QB as a junior (because he wanted to play QB) when he was basically thrown in because we had few other options.

who does he play for now? i just remember him projected as a top pick, and then he slipped to the late first round

i thought so. it doesn't seem like he will have to wait much longer for the starting job

I thought you said that you didn't think a freshman QB could make Cal's roster. I suppose it just depends on how many QBs Cal keeps on the roster.
