UCLA fan comments on Neyland experience

Knoxville is by far my favorite roadtrip in the SEC.

For all the smack talk going on here, I've never had an issue with fans up there other than an occasional student here or there. My crew usually sets up behind the Copper Cellar, a group of about 25-30 Gators and Vols.

On the way back to my car a UCLA fan made a comment, I just said congrats and walked on.

will second that original post.....we had a great time in Knoxville and the game was memorable experience, win or lose. (Sure the memories are a lot sweeter now, but 36 more inches and it's a different story).

I've been to Austin, Norman and Lincoln, and I'd say Neyland had the best atmosphere by far. The crowd noise when they parted the "T" and the team came out was breathtaking.

And the folks were very gracious in defeat. We had a great conversation on the walk-out with a guy who invited us to his tailgate, but our bus was heading straight for the airport. Too bad, but I imagine the mood in the bars Saturday night might not have been too pretty.

Thanks to all and you've got a whole new group of Vol fans on the West Coast now. Who knows, Tenn. could easily work your way up to an at-large Rose Bowl berth one year, whether it's the title game or not. Just keep those Trojan coaches in check.

Sorry, this is long post but its things like this that make the loss a little more tolerable for me...maybe for you too.

Im always glad to hear opposing fans say good things about how OUR fans conduct themselves. Its part of what makes Neyland the best place the watch a game bar none!

Thanks for sharing this. The football tradition at UT is great, but knowing I can take my 2 sons to a game and I do not have to worry about a lot of crap you hear at other places.

I hope UCLA doesnt play In Gainesville anytime soon..Their fans dont share beer with you before the game they throw it on you.

This will be my 7th trip to the swamp and have never had a problem. Good natured ribbing before and after game but I have never seen a Tennessee fan mistreated.

Glad to read this, and glad SOMEBODY had a good time.

I second all the comments. Was at The Bar before the game and there was a lot of Vols and Bruins hanging out having a good time before hand. Nice to see we can all "co-exist" and have fun. A Win would have made it a little more fun....but whatta ya gonna do!

A friend I worked with was at the Florida game year before last and several FL jerks through glass bear bottles at her and her companions, cutting her foot.

Last year in AL, my wife and I attended the Auburn game with no troubles. Most of the comments were wishing UT to beat AL.

The only time I've had a problem with an opposing fan was a few years ago when Florida beat us at home. After the game a drunk Florida girl/woman got in my sons face (maybe 8 at the time) doing the gator chomp. She alost got her arse beat by my wife.

During the Salute to the Hill, I was standing with my Dad on PM Pass near PF Way right where it opens up on top of the hill at the corner of the parking lot (across the street from where the band is for the VolWalk). Anyway, there were numerous UCLA fans walking down towards the stadium and as soon as they catch the scene of the band marching down, their jaws were dropping at the sea of orange. There were swarms of them taking pictures of the scene. Kind of made me feel proud. :)

Gators055's first troll remark didn't go off right so he had to proceed with a second attempt. It's nice to know that you're not a quitter.

I have.

Went in 1999, and don't have any plans to ever go back.

While I did "appreciate" walking the gauntlet through the gator chomps after leaving the stadium, the derogatory comments made toward the lone female in our group was pretty classless.

The worst part, though, was the spray painting of every UT fan's car in our hotel parking lot, with "Florida Rules" and "UT Sucks". Pretty cool stuff.

:bad:

We invited and had two UCLA fans tailgate with us at Calhouns and then eat with us afterwards. They were blown away with the whole scene and the NOISE in the stadium. Everytime we saw UCLA fans, we welcomed them to Tennessee!

There is NO place in any football game where someone should throw a beer on anyone for any reason!

i was very proud of our turnout. we were loud, especially in the last quarter. it's been a while since i've felt that much excitement at neyland.

my buddy who lives in Cali dressed up as davy crocket and his buddy, who's a bruins fan dressed up as the bruin bear. it was funny, they got their picture taken a bunch. the guy had an amazing time.

i played some drinking games at The Tin Roof with a bunch of bruins fans and they were really cool. we had a blast.

This is one Gator fan who loves visiting Knoxville. We have been there for five or six games over the years, and have always been treated like guests. I love the dedication of the state for the Vols as you see the colors everywhere. I will never forget driving in from North Carolina on game day and seeing two young boys standing on the roof of their barn waving Vol flags. I will never forget the overtime game that you'll won. We were sitting on about the 3rd row and decided to exit via the field. As we step down on the field, a group of students was running to the goalposts, stopped and cordially let us pass, and then resumed their celebration.

All schools have their nutcases, but I have yet to run into any in Knoxville. I always try to make the Vol fans welcome in Gainesville and look forward to doing so this weekend.

Go Vols! Go SEC! Go Gators!

The only issue that I have ever had at an SEC game was at a UT game when we played UF and it was with another UT fan who would not stop hounding with these two girls that were UF fans. Other than that I haven't had any issues at any SEC game that I have been to other than a little smack talk but it was all in fun on both sides. My wife is a Miss. State fan an she really likes going to Neyland to watch a game. I still think UT is the best place to watch a game. I plan on taking my 7 year old son to a few games this year.
