Just watched a vid on YouTube about this. Supposedly, after all of that, the HR ended-up standing. The Memphis pitcher who came on in relief of the pitcher who got tossed threw his first pitch at the next UCF batter who came to the plate. On the second pitch, the guy crushed a HR to center field. UCF won big. Crazy.
Here is why they reversed field on that call. From the rulebook... Rule 1-12.
e. It is mandatory that all bats have an identification mark 18 inches from the end of the handle. No foreign substance that will in any way discolor the ball may be added to the surface of the bat beyond 18 inches from the end of the handle.
f. For game and practice use, all nonwood bats must have a leather, rubber or taped grip securely attached to the bat handle.
PENALTY for e. and f.—If the bat is not marked 18 inches from the knob, or has pine tar or a foreign substance beyond the 18-inch mark, the bat must be removed from the game and the player warned. If the practice continues, the player is to be ejected from the game. If a bat’s handle Rule 1 / The Game, Playing Field and Equipment 17 should become loose and the bat must be removed from the game, the same practice is to be followed.
Neither of these infractions is cause for calling the batter out.
So they tried to employ the penalty statement for a bat modified to improve performance earlier in this rule for a. and b. for this infraction. Can't believe they caught it and fixed it real time.
NOW.... that is exactly what they did to us for a bat that was not covered by that rule at all. Our bat just failed the Testing Protocol and should not have been treated that way either. The bat should have been taken as it was and declared
UNACCEPTABLE FOR PLAY, NOT ILLEGAL All in my over the top war and peace length posts on our bat in this forum. Can't believe NOBODY at UT or in the talking head game has not forced that admission from the SEC office after their stupid statement justifying it.
