UAB Game: Day or Night

7PM game---much better than a game at the hideous time of 12PM, which is way too early.

StubHub is the least reliable place to find gametimes. They don't even post the correct times for games after they've been "officially" released.

If the UT Martin game is a PPV game (which is about a 99% probability), then UT gets to select the gametime and will most likely set a 7 pm kickoff.

If for some reason one of the TV partners selects it, I still don't see any way its not at 7. FSN, CSS and ESPNU all have 7ish windows that they use.

Is FSN new this year? I don't reclall any games being on there last year off of the top of my head. And do they pick before or after CSS?

Other than the mandatory ESPN network game (Vandy or UK?) and the Ole Miss game currently scheduled for noon on CBS, I see all other games being 3:30 or night.

No. FSN carried 7 games last year, CSS carried 8. Tennessee appeared on neither. They pick in conjunction with each other, neither has a "first pick" over the other.

The Ole Miss game has not been scheduled yet. I would highly doubt that it would be on CBS as it was last year.

Here's how I see our TV schedule panning out:

vs. Tennessee-Martin PPV/7:00

vs. Oregon TV ESPN2/7:00 - already confirmed

vs. Florida CBS/3:30 - already confirmed

vs. UAB FSN/CSS/7ish
A lot more compelling games this weekend, all other schools but one playing conference games.

at LSU CBS/3:30 - already confirmed
And it's a really good thing we're already announced on CBS, because with the CBS 3:30/8:00 doubleheader, all other games will start at noon.

at Georgia SECN/12:30 or ESPNU/7
This one could be interesting. Florida plays LSU, which will almost certainly be the CBS 3:30 game. Alabama plays at South Carolina, which could be a big game if both teams play as they are expected to. I'd imagine that SC/Bama goes on ESPN at 7:45.

Then, ESPN has a decision to make. Arkansas/Texas A&M has Arkansas as the "home team," which makes this game part of the SEC package, meaning this game probably goes on ESPN2 at 7/7:45.

That leaves Auburn-UK and UT-UGA, with one going to The 12:00 SEC Network game, the other to ESPNU at 7. Technically, the SEC Network game is the "higher" selection, but nowdays ESPN deals out all of the games after CBS pick theirs, so they can decide which one will get better numbers at which spot.

vs. Alabama CBS/3:30 or ESPN/7:45
Pretty weak schedule this week for the SEC. Only real competition for the CBS game would be is Auburn-LSU is a top-15 matchup, which it probably will be. Does CBS go with the traditional rivalry of the Third-ish Saturday, or a top-15 matchup? The one that isn't selected will be the ESPN 7:45, so it's no big loss exposure-wise. I'd rather be at 3:30 at that time of the year, tho.

at South Carolina ESPN or ESPN2/7ish
Alabama is off. UGA-Florida has already been announced at 3:30 on CBS. Auburn-Ole Miss, MSU-Kentucky and Arkansas-Vandy are the other games. I figure at worst, well be in the 7pm game on ESPN2, but more likely ESPN at 7:45, especially is SC is as goo as expected.

at Memphis CBS-College/8:00 - already confirmed

vs. Mississippi ESPN/7:45 or ESPN2/7
Good news here is that there's a CBS doubleheader at 12 and 3:30 and no SEC network game, so all the games other than the two that CBS picks will be at 7. South Carolina-Florida and Auburn-Georgia will almost certainly be the CBS games, putting us in one of the 7/7:45 ESPN or ESPN2 games.

at Vanderbilt SECN/12 or ESPNU/7
Here's an interesting one. Other than this game, we have Ole Miss-LSU and Mississippi State-Arkansas as the only other in-conference games. Bama, Florida, KY and SC all have 1-AA opponents. With that schedule, ESPN will probably pass on having an SEC 7:45 game, as is their right. I'm going to guess that CBS takes Ole Miss-LSU and we either get put on SEC Network at 12:00 or ESPNU at 7.

Kentucky SECN/12 or ESPNU/7
Auburn-Alabama is on Friday on CBS, which helps us. The complicated thing here is that for the ESPN games, we have Florida-FSU, and SC-Clemson that are each at ACC stadiums, so they fall under the ACC TV deal, so one is probably on ABC, the other could be an ESPN 7:45 game in the place of the regular SEC game. Georgia-Ga Tech is the next best game that CBS can take, so I think they'll go with that one, unless Kentucky is doing something spectacular. That puts us at 12 on SEC Network or to freeze at night on ESPN2 at 6 or ESPNU at 7.

My Ole Miss guess is coming from this -

2010 College Football TV Schedule

Even this far out, this is usually fairly accurate.

Didn't realize that about FSN. I guess I just didn't pay attention to it.

I just don't see a situation where CBS picks UT-Ole Miss over the two other games I mentioned. Its certainly possible, but not likely, especially if we only have 3-4 wins at that point. That's not going to be a compelling TV matchup unless we or the Rebels are better than expected.

Even then, Georgia-Auburn is a better selection for the noon game from both a compelling game standpoint and a TV ratings standpoint.

I think the last 2 UAB-Tennessee games were on Raycom... but I'd be okay with FSN or CSS as well.

Raycom doesn't exist for SEC telecasts anymore, FYI. It was replaced by the ESPN-owned SEC Network, which distributes the games the same way Raycom did, on local channels throughout the country.

The UAB game is simple, and it depends on whether the UT-Martin game is picked up by the SEC Network.

If the UTM game isn't picked up by SEC Network, it'll be PPV and the UAB game will end up on CSS or FSN.

If the UTM game IS picked up by SEC Network, then the UAB game will become our PPV game, since it is our only other remaining non-conference home game.

Each school is given the rights to one non-conference home game to sell as a PPV.

Well I know I'm biased, but I think a UAB-Tennessee game warrants more of a regional telecast (ie, CSS or FSN) since it is actually an inter-state contest rather than an intra-state contest.

Not sure what to expect in this game. Many of our games with you guys have been fairly close, but of course the last time we played yall we were well-below the scholarship limit and got it handed to us. Now, for the first time in about 3 or 4 years, we're actually supposed to be back up to full numbers.

I agree, but unfortunately these days its all about TV and what other games are on the schedule each week. There are fewer attractive games the opening week in the SEC than there are for your game, as many of the other SEC schools have their conference opener that week.
