UAB Focus

From the looks of it, UAB is particularly bad this year. I talked to folks that went to the Troy game (that UAB won with a Hail Mary) and they said UAB was pathetic.

Strangely, they are finally at a full scholarship strength but apparently they gave schollies to bums.

Troy must really suck. The thing about both teams, troy and uab they have alot of alabama kids on the roster, high school football in alabama is so much better than our state. We should win, but it will not be a cake walk if the players are not focused. Look at ole siss vs jacksonville state.

Very true, and I certainly understand that aspect. With wins being a hard commodity this year, I would find it hard to believe our guys would overlook anyone on the schedule.

I don't find that hard to believe. They are kids, ranging from 19-22. They will do stupid stuff as a matter of course. See generally the shower discipline seminar a couple weeks ago.

That said, I think the Doo has their heads on straight and is motivating them in exactly the right way.

Take the Vols & the points.

Our new QB was pretty remarkable in the game against Troy... passing for 360 yards in only 2.5 quarters.

Given what I saw in our first 2 games, I wouldn't necessarily give us a chance. But what I saw in the last 2.5 quarters against Troy was impressive as we came from 23 down to win.

Looking forward to this game. I think will be closer than many think. Love the UAB mascot.

I like the dragon, but the nickname always makes me think that the student body back in the day just really liked the Chevy SUV.

As an aside, I know a guy named Chris Blazer who actually works at UAB. How crazy is that? Maybe his daddy really liked the truck too.

two true freshman getting first starts in the OL..

One senior WR out, the other banged up (he will play and he will stay banged up all year. this is just carry over from UTM game injury. Will nag him from now on until he just sits for a while).

Starting RB dinged up.

OL coming off worse game of year..

Your best DT is dinged up and a walk-on who played his very first snaps is your best backup at DT..

and you believe Tennessee should drum UAB with no problems? I'm sure you were aware of all the above and you still think UT drums them then there is nothing anyone can say to change your view IMO.

You're probably right about my view. The OL is primarily where I see the question mark, but I also feel as though size will make a difference. The UAB DL is small compared to our OL and I think they will be completely worn out by mid 3rd qtr. We should be able to open up some huge holes for our running game.

As far as our dinged up players go, that's part of football. As limited as we are on depth, I think we have some decent backups in Oku, Hunter, Rogers, etc.

I expect vanilla play calling for the majority of the game (70% run and 30% pass), but I also expect to see them try to stretch the field a little more.

That blazer is pretty sick. Too bad it would take half my paycheck to fill it up throughout the week.

We're awful, UAB is garbage. We SHOULD win by 3 TD's. That's more of a testament to how terrible the Blazers are.

No offense to UAB fans.

they will be decent when they learn where to lineup.. they are really raw and making frequent mistakes.. but that is being freshman.. we will see more OL breakdowns Saturday.. they are not cohesive as a line needs to be.

Just because we are playing a team not any good, won't help us make less mistakes. Just gives the not so good team better opportunities..

we will win, but game will not be pretty...

Didn't we beat them 17-10 a few years ago? Then beat LSU at Death Valley the next week?

I'd be happy with that.

We have had every opportunity to sieze control of the last 2 games we have played in and found ways to hurt ourselves and squander the lead or give up big plays. We are simply not a very good TEAM right now and it is killing us in the points column.

LSU is a prime example of having more talent than another team and still getting beat. just because we out size or speed some other team doesnt mean that they don execute their gameplan better and win because of it.

BTW the colts Defense is way undersized yet they are able to run right around offensive lineman that outweigh them by 100 lbs. Dont forget, Robert Mathis came from Alabama A&M. Small schools can have good athletes too.

I think UAB makes it too close for comfort and we will be lucky to come out with a victory. This is like a bowl game for them. They dont get too many chances to knock off the big guys on national or even regional TV. Hell, the game between them and Troy wasnt even on in Birmingham last week.

Well the only thing I really know about them is they beat Troy last week who was their conference champs for the past four years.

Valid points, but it's difficult to compare a pro style defense designed specifically that way to UAB's. I get what you are trying to say though. I still think that if we pound the ball they will get tired eventually and we should be able to get some big running plays out of it.

I think Tennessee will roll over them but after losing to Wyoming and seeing the Titans lose to Charlie Batch... I don't know anymore.

I would like to think Tennessee would win 42-6 or something along those lines.
