Tyson Helton Offense

If there is any critique to Helton, it would be that Sam Darnold didn't improve this year. Darnold doesn't consistently throw a great ball and he reminds me a bit of Matthew Stafford (He flashes the #1 draft pick talent a lot but mixes in enough bad things to make you wonder if he will ever put it all together).

Haven't had a chance to see USC play this year. Does Tyson Helton run a pro or spread offense?

About as pro style as anyone runs these days. Some under center. A lot from the shot gun. Does not expect his QB to run but you want them to be mobile.

In 2015 at WKU, Helton offense was #1 nationally in passing efficiency, #3 in scoring (44.3 ppg), #4 in in passing ypg (372.2 ypg), #8 in first downs, #9 in total yds (526.4 ypg). Similar numbers and rankings in 2014 as well, his first year as OC.

Sure, it was against weaker competition, but with WKU level players.

He is. The Tee bashers want to act like the assistant to the actual offensive coordinator ran everything. Helton is a good coach and will run a nice o if he is the oc. be honest though.

His brother the HC is an offense guy too. Guess he's completely hands off, huh?

Hold up guys.... You have a impressive QB that hasn't lived up to the hype... The system he runs will work great here I firmly elite ve because it rings a physicality in being a pro style offense and a change up tempo so you can be multiple in your attack of a defense... I am going home to study some film of their defense so I can't tell you a lot if the how it why but simply from a philosiphy standpoint it most definently will work...

They have input. Just like any head coach has. Ainge confirmed with people connected to the program that this year Tee calls the plays and gameplans. The Heltons have input.

I guess we souldn't have hired Pruitt because he was under Saban or the same with Kirby Smart and UGA. Saban has way more say over the Bama d and Smart got credit, even though he was always under Saban. Tee wouldn't be a finalist for assistant coach of the year if he was sitting over there twiddling his thumbs with the Heltons doing all the work.

A very good OC hire and excellent scheme fit for UT . Dan Enos would've also been a good OC hire.

Helton broke offensive records running Brohm's offense at WKU. That may be more what we have to look forward to.

Everything I have been reading is Helton was hired as QB coach.

Edit. Never mind, I had seen the tweet saying QB, but now everything else is saying OC/QB.

Brohm called the plays. I'm guessing it'll look a good bit like that system, but it's only a guess.

Conf usa/Sun belt spread offense. Lack of power running game hurt USC. They have the best qb in the country and loaded full of talent and underachieved offensively.

He needs to be qb coach and they must hire an elite offensive coordinator.

3rd and 1-3 yards to go, Alabama ran 35 times and got 20 first downs. Same situation, USC ran 33 times and got 22 first downs.
