Tyndall Investigation Update from TOS

-TBA opened in 1987, no 1988.
-Kevin O'Neill coached here for 3 seasons, not 2.
-JaJuan Smith was not a transfer, he was a walk-on who received a scholarship.

First play ever in the TBA. Against Marquette, Clarence Swearengen takes the opening tip for a breakaway dunk.

HISTORY OF UT BASKETBALL 1978 TO THE PRESENT

First, you are correct, Thunder Good-Oil, UT has won 4 SECT's in all. I was referring to the number that had been won since the renewal in 78-79. After that championship, DeVoe petitioned the AD to raise money to build a new arena so that he would have competitive facilities to recruit against fl, ga, aub, and ky.

The AD approved and the project was underway to have a new facility by the 82-83 season. However, the contractor assigned to complete the work ran into difficulties because of caves underneath the building site. There were cost overruns and more work had to be done to shore up the deficiencies. Another contractor was brought in to finish the project after ceiling beams were found to be unsafe.

DeVoe then faced greater difficulties in recruiting because opposing coaches told recruits that they would never be able to play in a modern and up to date arena. Coach DeVoe was then only able to bring in the best athletes he could get until the arena was finally opened in 1988. This is why his recruiting was not up to par from 83 to 88. CDT experienced similar difficulties recruiting after CCM bolted for cal.

After CDD was fired by Lamar and Dickey and replaced by wade and allan, we suffered 5 years of misery on the new court. If allan had not been allowed to get out of his loi to l'ville, then wade may have not seen a full 2 yrs. as UT head coach. That would have been a true blessing for us fans.

Fl was a true outlaw school imo, and the fans hated DeVoe because of his UT ties. They used the Schintzius fiasco in demanding CDD's firing at the end of his interim stay. This time he was blessed because he landed at The Naval Academy. He became one of the best coaches at The USN Academy in their basketball history.

After wade was fired, Kevin O'Neill became our coach for 2 years until he found doug dickey to be impossible to deal with.

Then dickey tried to hire k stallings and was turned down. He then hired jerry green, another lazy leader similar to wade. After he was fired, along came buzz p, who could not coach, but he did recruit Chris Lofton and Dane Bradshaw. Pearl was the beneficiary of these two great players along with transfer Jujuan Smith.

The rest, I think most of you are aware of.

BTW, buzz p next coached at coastal Carolina and then appy state. He was never at coastal carolina in 99-00.
I'm sure it's done been said, but Jujuan wasn't a transfer. He was a walk on. Tyler Smith was a transfer from Iowa.

This thread is pure drama queen. Read the entire article not some snippet. We must have media on here now. Another drama queen insinuated DT said players were leaving. That's not what he said. Drama.

Haven't heard it lately, but about a month ago Basilio said that there will be at least one from the current roster leaving. He's been quiet about that the last few weeks. He doesn't claim to be a journalist though. On 9/11 he was certain that Flight 93 was shot down.

Tony may be right. I was more referring to people taking a snippet from an article and running with it. I don't doubt some may leave however.

The problem is not the sanctions. The problem is the impact on recruiting. Other teams are using it now and will continue to use it. It sounds like by the time that they announce the infractions we will be in next year. And so it continues to have an effect on future years as well.

We can't deny or argue against any of that. If CDT is punished, even just slightly, it all comes down to if what he brings to the table is worth all the bad that's going to come with him staying here. Is his potential worth waiting out a suspension and bad recruiting until it's all resolved? Our hands are tied right now, we can't fire him without cause and not pay a huge buyout.

You weren't paying attention. Try again. No where in the article did the head coach say who was leaving and that they definitely would leave. Read much?

So which is it? No one is leaving or you don't doubt some may.

no. WE didn't want to keep Bruce.

Hamilton tried at first to keep Bruce. Bruce got suspended by the SEC and UT hoped that would help.

Once Bruce violated the bump rule and once it wasn't looking good, UT gave up the fight.

The bump was not considered as a violation. Just to be clear on that

I thought that was the most minor of the infractions. The players giving away extra tickets to games was more premeditated than the bump. The timing was what really hurt.

The bump was not considered a violation. But the timing of it was definitely not good. The ticket matter was done by Ken and was supposedly not known about by Bruce.

Excellent account of UT basketball. I remember all that you referred to and it dwarfs my post. It was fun to read every word!

I have been an ardent fan since Ray Mears strolled the sideline, but I had forgotten the details.

I believe that you were right about Jujuan Smith's path to UT.

Two things that come to mind. I thought that Auburn was the other team with the double bye in 1979 and the player that KO and Dickey had a disagreement about was Isaiah Victor of Clarksville, I believe.

Thanks for reminding me of this all! GO VOLS! And I hope that CDT will be coaching at UT for many years to come.

Please read the 3rd to last paragraph and you will find that I admitted that J Smith was a walk on. O'Neill only was at UT 2 years!

This is why I mentioned it. While not a violation, the timing of it and the fact that it happened seemed to be another reason why the administration was withdrawing it's support for Bruce.

It was "unintentional".

JuJuan Smith was a walk-on at UT under Buzz, straight out of HS. Tyler Smith transferred.

Edit: I see others cleared up the JS situation.

So when we going to know what's going on with Tyndall. I say if there is any hint at all at allegations just let him go now so we can get in the coaching search mix. Many teams are already going after people, if we have to wait until May to let him go we will get a crap hire more than likely
