Don DeVoe was on the Sports Source and he said that he thinks we will see Tyler playing alot in the back court with our depth at the 4 and 5. He also said that TN will be a team nobody will want to play. Very athletic, very long and lean. Will be extremely good defensively. Lastly, he said that Maze will have a lot to learn to keep his starting spot. I really didn't like that comment.

Who will beat Maze out for the spot? West is having issues getting in. J.P. Prince, no way.

I remember Bruce Pearl saying at media day that J.P. Prince will be 3rd string Point Guard and will play point guard in our Big Lineup.

Maybe he meant that he still has a lot to learn. Maze is the best option even with West available. Tony Bassillio said this past Friday that Tony Jones said (I did not hear the interview) don't worry too much about the West situation. It will be resolved in a few days (maybe he meant this week). Did anyone else hear the Tony Jones interview on TB's show?

I think Pearl will not hesitate to use Prince at the point if he thinks that it's his best (or only) option.

I'm interested to see if JP has improved his weak areas (shooting, etc) in the offseason, or if he'll be the same ol' JP

Tyler will play the 3 in the NBA. I would be surprised if Bruce didn't give Tyler the chance to play a lot of 3. The more he plays there will key mainly on Brian Williams productivity down low for larger periods of time.

Tyler isn't playing 3 to help his career. He's playing the 3 because he can and it makes our team better. Any other reason and you should begin clamoring for CBP to go away.

Last year Bruce said he would give Chris some action at the point mainly because that would give him NBA stock. I'm not saying that the only reason Tyler's playing the 3 is to boost his NBA career. I love the prospects of finally having height advantages down low on most of our opponents. If Williams can effectively play the 5 during the time Tyler's at small forward our front line will the best in the SEC.

yo did notice that Lofton didn't play the 1 last year, right?

Because he missed most of the conditioning in the offseason? He didn't have much of an opportunity to practice that position.

I think that was mainly because Lofton really wasn't able to play the 1. After his Jr. year, Pearl probably thought that it would be good for Lofton to try to learn the position, so when he came back for his Sr year he could play it in spots to boost his NBA chances. I think Lofton focused mainly on his cancer recovery rather than learning a new position to bolster his career. Tyler is a more natural 3 than he is a 4 and the learning curve would be much different than what Lofton was facing.

I am pumped about basketball. This Tennessee team will remind me alot of some of the really athletic teams LSU had a few years back.

please. He wasn't going to play the 1 because we lose our best shooter in an O like that, he couldn't defend the position and he wasn't a ball distributor. It would have been entirely senseless to play him there.

Tyler, OTOH, can play the 3 on each end without a drop in his own performance and as a plus to the team.

Tyler playing the 3? interesting b/c we have Prince, Tabb, Woolridge, Tatum, Hopson playing the wings. I know its not for the whole time, but I'm surprised since we have talent/depth at the wings.

It seemed like yesterday that we were playing a 6-4 guard at forward. Now we have the possibility of a tandem of 6-7 guards on the court.

Hopson and Tatum will probably split time at the 2. I don't see Tabb getting many meaningful minutes. No idea what Prince will do. He may see alot of minutes at the 1 at the beginning of the year until West is in shape and has learned Pearl's system. Out of all the players, we sure didn't need him to have to miss any practice.

I thought our depth at 4 or 5 was the weakest with depth at the wings the strongest. Am I missing something? I would like to see T. Smith at wing, but if Williams is playing at the 5 isn't Jurick the only backup? Isn't Negedu the only backup at the 4? Pearl did say Woolridge right now is just a tall guard.

I'd love to see Tyler at the 3. That would give us some good size advantages.

1. Maze
2. Hopson
3. Smith
4. Chism
5. Williams

At the five:
Williams/Chism/Jurick/Negedu

At the 4:
Chism/Prince/Negedu/Childress(maybe)/Pearl/T. Smith
I think Prince could see some minutes there with his ball handling skills.

Does any of this sound unreasonable?

As much as we've progressed we still don't have the athleticism to compete with the Carolina's, UCLA's, Memphis', just yet, but it's great to be into consideration.

I have no reason to believe that within 3 year's we'll have a Final Four appearance under our belts.
