Tyler Bray to Possibly Have Surgery...

'dores ain't hanging around. Our D will make sure of that. GA played an ugly game and allowed vandy to feel like a football team. Franklin and his nancydoores will get face punched by a solid UT football team.

Yea, that was a pretty sad state. We rely too much on field goals, imo. I believe by the 3rd, 12 of our points were from field goals. That's what we brought to the UT game as well before the 3rd.

Be careful what you wish for with Worley. Who says he is ready? If he were to play, and play badly, then his "recruiting" image of being a world dominating QB would be gone. I don't know if some on this board can handle that at the moment.

Simms should be the guy unless he gets injured.

Then our coaches would know they have to go out and get a QB but I'm guessing our coaches have seen him play enough to know his capabilites already.

I agree, Simms should be the guy

According to Austin Ward, Simms could be our QB for the rest of the season. That's an ugly thought but, if that's the case, we might as well throw Worley into the fire. As long as we're going to lose, it doesn't matter which quarterback we lose with and it'd give him some valuabe SEC experience early on.

Throwing away Worley's red shirt for nothing is what I have come to expect to read on this site......

Did we "waste" Bray's last year?

Considering Bray was the heir apparent to the starting position no.

Worley will not be the man for at least another 2 years. So you are going to throw away a year of eligibility and only have him for 1 year at most for just a few games he probably wont do any better than Sims in?

I say, if he's going to be out already until the Vandy/UK game, let him rest the remainder of the season. Surely to goodness Simms can beat them two.

I don't like our chances against Vandy with Simms at the helm and the likelihood of winning out go up dramatically with Bray returning for these two. If he is ready I say let's please play him. 10 to 14 point difference in my opinion.

Who cares if he is ready. As long as he doesn't throw it into the ground twenty yards behind the receiver I'll be fine.

Why waste Worleys red shirt? I just dont get it.

Yes, you're obvioulsy not getting it.

HINT: If he's really that good, he won't be here for more than four years anyway (NFL) and if he isn't really that good, someone elsewill be playing instead of him.

Mmmkay?

The coaches not listing him on the depth chart all the way up until game day should tell you where they feel his is in his progression.

Who cares about his redshirt? If he's as good as advertised he won't be staying his senior season, anyway. And if he's not as good as advertised, he won't have the job.

So play him.

He's not ready to play. At this point he would not be an upgrade over Simms.

The redshirt is not the reason Worley isn't playing. Period.

We burn a year for a couple of cupcake wins in a meaningless season, and then he sits out the next 2 seasons behind Bray. Then he only gets one meaningful year to play.

OR

We let him redshirt. He pays his dues behind Bray for the next 2 seasons, and he gets his Senior and 5th year to start.

It is shortsighted thinking and player mismanagement that got us in our current predicament. My guess is Simms > Worley at this point anyway.

Wait...so he's either a first round draft pick or a backup?

It will have no impact according to Brice.

I have actually had a few athletes that have returned to action faster by electing to have the surgery vs. letting it heal on its own.

Depends on the degree of his fracture and case specifically, but this leads me to believe that the plan is for him to return before the end of regular season.

Plate inserted in Tyler Bray's thumb; timetable for return doesn't change GoVolsXtra

Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray had a metal plate inserted in his hand today to help his broken thumb heal properly.

The procedure was anticipated and does not affect the six-week recovery period that was originally presented shortly after Bray suffered the injury earlier this month against Georgia, coach Derek Dooley said.

"They have to let the swelling go down and the plate is in only so the bone doesn't grow, so it doesn't heal crooked," Dooley said at his weekly press conference. "The plate's only to help the healing. The scar tissue heals but it can move. If it moves and then it heals, then you've got a crooked thumb. We certainly don't want that with our quarterback."

Former UT wide receiver Gerald Jones underwent a similar procedure last season.

With Bray out until mid-November, senior Matt Simms remains the Vols' starter and freshman Justin Worley is the No. 2 option. When asked if Worley would only enter in an emergency, injury-related situation, Dooley said it was too early to speculate.

"Matt's our quarterback," Dooley said. "He's played one game, so I just think it's a little premature right now."

Simms completed just six of his 20 attempts for 128 yards and two interceptions in his first start of the season. Afterward, he described his performance as "terrible."

Dooley didn't completely disagree with the assessment.

"I think it's fair to say that he didn't play the way he's capable of playing and made some mistakes that really hurt us in the game," Dooley said. "He knows that. We need better play out of the quarterback position for us to compete against good football teams. Really to compete against anybody.

"If you can't get good quarterback play you're not going to beat anybody."

We can hope Brays back sooner than the KY game, but if not we support Simms while he's our QB!
