Tyler Bray discussion (merged)

I hope you are including yourself in that group, because clearly you didn't see my point. The key thing to note is that our 3rd string QB last year was better than our starter is this year...

Based on? Stats? GTFO, dude. What about the fact that one jumped ship, and the other is currently leading this team?

Guess the QB:

Career totals in college (3 years)

Comp-203 Att-374 Yards-2713 Comp%-54.3 TDs-25 INTs-19

In the Pros:

Pass attempts 3,762
Pass completions 1,886
Percentage 50.1
TD-INT 173–220
Passing yards 27,663
QB Rating 65.5

how is Bray's head about it? He seem OK with what's transpiring and a potential RS?

Not saying that is what they are doing just offering that as a possible reason he didn't play versus Oregon.

I've not heard anything that indicates Bray has any disatisfaction with how he is being handled.

Is this a good or bad thing?

How about Bray didn't play against Oregon because he's not the starting QB??? Sims needs reps just as much, actually more than Bray because he's not the starter. We can talk about "taking lumps" all day long but we could do alot more damage by yanking a guy that is a better performer (coaches opinion), destroying any confidence that might come out this season otherwise, and screwing our recruiting opportunities by sucking it up even more.

The reality is that we have some weapons, and at this point, the goal is for the QB not to completely loose the game for us and to attempt to get the ball to those playmakers. Sims gives us the best opportunity to do that.

I understood what you were saying, I was just curious if you knew how he would take something of that nature.

If Simms stays at QB Tenn only gets wins against Kentucky and Vandy in the SEC. ( if they play each other) It will be a long, long season.

One of the worst performances I have seen from a QB. I have a buddy that played in the NFL and scouts often for a d-1 team and he agrees. take your lumps with Bray, it cant get any worse. Get Bray some experience now. Short passes and screens will only go so far.

Sorry Vols, the def better play lights out against Fl or prepare to be taken to the wood shed. Don't get me wrong I'm pulling for Tenn, but I'm being realistic.

IF they play each other? Really?:hmm:

Bray is not the future. Justin Worley is the future. Bray is immature, not focused and not physically ready.

I agree with everything here except i'm not ready to declare him "not the future." He may not get his head out of his **s but we don't know yet. He is gifted with talent. I just hope he see's that he could be special but that will take lot's of hard work.

not sure he would care one way or the other. might give him time to mature off the playing field in other aspects of football and college life. I honestly don't know how he takes it..

Likely a long shot because simms may not stay healthy enough to play all year,

Bray is not the future. Justin Worley is the future. Bray is immature, not focused and not physically ready.

I like Worley as well. I know all of the QB evaluators on here talk about making all the throws and big heat, but rarely have the national title contending QBs been the big heater, all the throws kind of guys. They've been better thinkers who can be accurate enough to sustain drives by taking what is given.

I don't know if Bray fits that mold. Hope he does because he has a beautiful and quick delivery with some hop and accuracy, but I'll take the thinking guy with accuracy most days. Danny Wuerffel and friends agree.

Bray has all the physical attributes (weight aside) that it takes to play QB. However he doesn't have that QB charisma apparently. Everyone has said that Simms just strikes you as a QB with his command and leadership. He obviously has a great pedigree.

I agree that Worley could be the best chance we have coming up in the qb situation. I hope Bray does well and gets focused on the team. Maybe some of you guys can elaborate, heard hes a >>California leaf<< lover and is having trouble with the playbook <----- um Duh.

I hate to see Bray on the sidelines with no helmet anywhere near him. My coaches always told me to be ready to go in at anytime. Does this bother anyone else?

Simms showed some improvement in the second half of the Florida game. He still has trouble picking up 2nd and 3rd receivers. We had Stocker wide open on the interception he threw that would have gone for a touchdown. He has sufficient arm strength, but tends to consistently over-throw receivers down field. I don't suspect that Bray is ready or he would be playing. Simms has not shown enough to maintain the starting position if we had anyone else to play. If they are equal, go with Bray.

Really think Simms is hurrying to get rid of ball because he thinks he is about to get hit (and usually he is right). He seems much more comfortable when he roles out and knows where the defenders are. FWIW Crompton was much more comfortable when he rolled out.

I love how we have all of these qb gurus on this board. All you have is speculation... so since Bray couldnt beat out Simms he is obviously immature and will never amount to anything. Get real midfielder if you are gonna spew stuff like that about him then document your sources.

I don't have to give you sources just like you don't have to believe it. That's not really something to throw names around on a message baord.

absolutely!!!! this goes for any level of football. talent is a good thing and a strong arm is needed at times, but day in and day out, the best QBs (championship QBs) are the thinkers

VERY VERY rarely is this not the case.
